Question for police officers- did I do the right thing, or what should I have done?

Tonight I was coming home from work and I pulled into a fast food joint to get a drink. There was a very long line in oncoming traffic that was waiting at a light. THere was just enough space for me to turn left into the food place. When I tried, the driver waiting in oncoming traffic pumped his gas as if either to cut me off from turning in or to hit me. I gave him a look like "what the F are you doing?" but nothing more. The guy in his passenger seat went nuts screaming at me, cursing me, calling me names and trying to get me to fight him. He was going crazy leaning half of his body out the window of his car trying to taunt me into a fight. I gathered my senses and just drove to the food place, without escalating the fight. He kept yelling at me from the road while I was going inside.

Did I do the right thing by leaving him alone? Should I have called the police? Should I have yelled back ? I feel like I certainly shouldn't have given him a dirty look, but he really over reacted.

  1. You seem like an intelligent person from your writing skill to your choices made in the situation.

Do not worry about what you looked like on the outside to society, as being "wussy."  You did the right thing.  Do unto others as you would have them do to you.  That is what you did.  People go off, and he was probably wanting you to elevate his intensity so he could get his rocks off.

If we saw his writing about how he acted in this situation it would suck.  He acted ignorant of human nature and laws.  That is curse and abuse and near disorderly conduct, so for you to join him would make you just as bad.

I am an officer and your passive actions may have saved your life and let an idiot realize that people are smarter than him.

    Good Job!

  2. I'm not a police officer, but just from what I've seen on television and read in the paper, you did the right thing by just leaving him alone. There are too many stories of people being killed due to road rage as it is. You don't need to be added to the numbers.

  3. You did the right thing..

  4. im not a police officer either but just because you didnt fight them doesnt make you a wuss.  dont worry about it, you made the right choice.

i mean would you rather be thinking about making the right choice behind bars in a little cell?

people are absolutely stupid on the road and they are never wrong, something i just had to accept myself  it sucks but unfortunately, its life
