Just a question for the pro-lifers. What is the difference between preventing a life that should have been through contraception and ending a very early life through abortion.

  1. prevention is something not ever developing and endina a early life is ending something already formed i think

  2. One concerns itself with the potential for life and the other concerns itself with an actual life.

  3. First off- I don't like to sugar coat and say i'm pro-life. I have no problem with being honest and saying I'm against abortion (when its used as a contraception).

I'm not religious in the least- Don't attend church and don't own a scripture (ie bible).

Anyway back to the question- My issue with abortion is this: You have a responsibility when engaging in s*x to PREVENT pregnancy. I hate the idea that we are developing into a society that says "make all the mistakes you want without consequence". Life is supposed to be about making mistakes and growing from them.

Give the child up for adoption if you don't want it but don't wipe it off the record by taking a mulligan like you were playing golf.

Everything in life has RISKS- You accept those risks when you partake in something. You aren't a child so don't act like one and claim you didn't know.

  4. I would be interested to see where they think that it's a life. If it's a life when conception starts, then why isn't it a life when it's a sperm and egg? It's a cell with a neutron, what's teh difference?

  5. prevented life = no life therefore no death.  Ended early life is an end to life = death.  Death by an action = killed.  Killing is wrong.

  6. Well I suppose if you prevent the life from ever happening t's better than abortion. I'm pro life, but i'd rather someone take birth control and not get pregnant rather than have an abortion and kill the fetus.

I'm also for capital punishment because I believe that if you took a life or several lives you deserve to die. An embryo has done nothing of the sort and doesn't need to die.

  7. This is an interesting question... my personal belief is that life begins at conception (not for religious reasons - I'm agnostic, so my views are based on my interpretation of the scientific evidence) and I think it's wrong to take life.

If conception has been prevented by birth control though, nothing has been lost or destroyed. An egg and a sperm in themselves are not human beings. I don't think there's anything wrong with having s*x for reasons other than reproduction, or with trying not to become pregnant, but I do think that we should all accept that pregnancy is always a possibility and take responsibility for that.

I personally don't use birth control either, for many reasons, but I'm not against it in the same way I'm against abortion. A fertilised embryo, to me, is an equal human being, whereas a gamete is not.

EDIT: I'm also against capital punishment. The people you refer to are generally religious conservatives; please don't think we're all like that. I'm pro-life and anti-death penalty because I'm a pacifist, and I believe we all have a right to life. I oppose all muder and violence.

  8. I say if it doesnt have a brain its not alive and you can give it the axe, but after that I dont think you should do it unless for health reasons, incest, or rape.

  9. You answered your own question.  One is "preventing a life" and the other is "ending a... life."

BTW... I think the definition of murder includes "ending a life."

  10. I follow a religion and that religion says to use common sense.
