  1. I know how you feel, but if you think about it, you might as well be sat inside watching TV if you're only going to be running for 1 min. It IS going to hurt, especially seeing as you're not used to it but you can't just stop. You've got to have willpower, and I know it's easier said than done but once you've done it once you'll get the hang of it.

I'm going to be honest, you'll probably lose very little to no weight. For it to have ANY effect you should maybe start off at dong at least 20mins. Start of running for 5mins. It's not long, but push yourself. Don't stop because you can't be bothered to carry on, stop because it hurts. What I used to think to myself is "It would be SO easy to give up now. ANYBODY can give up". You've got to try and be better than that and just keep on! You could even power walk the other 15mins if you don't feel comfortable running.

I'd get some shoes now, if you're serious about getting into this and losing weight. Proper running shoes will make sure your feet are nice and comfy and you don't damage yourself. My shoes were about £50...that's about $100 but that sounds a bit too much :S Anyway, what I'm saying is, get a decent pair not just plain old trainers.

If you go on a treadmill run at about 5.5 if you're just beginning. Maybe 5.0 if you can't manage it. If you're running outside it's hard to say how fast because everyone is different. Run at what feels comfortable for you :)

When I first started running I could justabout manage 5mins! I was that bad. In the space of a few months I can run for 1hour+. Set yourself targets, stick by them, and I'm sure you'll be fine! Good luck, I hope this helps

  2. Honestly, the idea of running a minute at a time doesn't sound very promising if you expect to lose some weight.  Even if it is a workout, try running at least five minutes at a time, in a slow jog pace.  Make sure you're sweating because that's a telltale sign you're body is working out.  It might be helpful to know you're body begins to burn fat AFTER an initial 20 minutes of continuous action.  So you might want to up the ante.

Tennis shoes are fine for running in.

Losing weight takes a while, though men tend to sculpt their bodies sooner because of testosterone.
