Question:

Question for step-parents?

How did the child(ren) react to you when you first met them? How long did it take to establish a relationship, and do you still have problems? Do they trust you?

I just want to know as I gave my mums boyfriend a bit of a hard time. I have apologized and we try to get along, but sometimes it can be a bit straining. However we don't have heart to hearts - so what I'd love to know is what it's like from a step parents point of view raising your partners child? Especially if you have never had children before?

Any comments and experiences I would love to hear, I want to try and make more of an effort.

Thank you so much.

  1. Little Birdie, Little Birdie....I shall email you soon! I'm not a step-parent, but, I have step parents. I don't care to share this with everyone, so, I will email you my dear!

  2. From a male stepparents point of view.  It is very difficult, you try to get the kids to like you but the bottom line is that they will never love you like they love their father.

I raised my wife's children from ages 7 and 8 and they are now approaching their forties.  Both have children of their own.  One daughter still refuses to come to our house at any time, even on holidays.  Words cannot describe how much it hurts my wife.  This same daughter never calls, writes, or makes any effort to communicate with her mother, I have given up.

The other daughter is the exact opposite she comes over to visit every chance she gets, talks to us almost daily.  We truly feel that she loves the both of us, she loves her father also, but she was raised in our house from age 7 so she feels somewhat closer to us.

In don't know how it happened this way, it just did.  I can tell you that by giving your mums boyfriend a hard time, the bottom line is that you are really hurting your mother more than him.  Look at it this way would you want your mother to dislike your new boyfriend, probably not.  Please be nice to him he is trying to make the best of a difficult situation.
