  1. I was teaching swing dancing and earned a degree at ASU for business. I turned down a job with Dell in 2001 and then worked at a temp agency. I decided to go back to school for an education certificate...i love kids, and i'm good at teaching dance...so i thought i would be good at teaching kids...and I was :)

I only taught for 3 years and then moved on..BUT it was the best experience of my life. I use so many now in my current job that I used and developed when teaching.

Tools for Teaching by Fred Jones (the book that prepared me the most.)

  2. when i was in high school myself my friends got me to help prep them for tests on subjects i had'nt taken like geography( i took history instead)

so  i made up games to learn facts link concepts together.

they were the first realizations of teaching beign a real profession to me.

parenst wanted me to do medicine oraccoutning- tried workign in a hospital  and in an office - yuck - wasnt really using my brain and my imagination at the same time

    i was bored

teachign is the only profession that taxes my brain - we are litterally juggling concept and behaviour and  emotional issues  with planning simultanuoesly  at the same time

i helped run a business that got me real world  experience of "jugglign issues"

i love teachign and  beign a master teacher 9 yeares into the jb andhaving been a head of dept ive gone back to beign a regular teacher-

being a mom has given me insight into a kid's emotions too!

  3. I teach special ed - and I always knew I wanted to teach kids with special needs.  I prepared my self by working at camps for special needs and volunteering for the Special Olympics.  But....I was disappointed that everything I learned in college was basically a waste of time.  College did not prepare me at all.  All I got from my college education was a diploma that permitted me to teach.  I learned everything inside the classroom! (It's a shame isn't it)

  4. I originally wanted to be an astronaut.  I had a catastrophic knee injury in college which was pretty much going to make that impossible.  I was a little depressed, and spent a summer working as a counselor at Space Camp while I tried to figure out what to do with my life.  I realized during that summer that not only did I enjoy working with kids, but I was actually very good at it.  So I became a math and physics teacher.

  5. I see your name is band camp...I'm a chorus teacher. In high school my chorus teacher would put me in charge when there was a sub. I loved it! I knew I wanted to teach chorus. I went to Florida State for a bachelor of music education. They have one of the top music education programs in the country (if you are looking into music). You have to REALLY want to teach. It's very stressful dealing with the parents and administration. The kids are fine....that's the easy part! Good luck.
