  1. when I hear elite I think of rangers, special forces, delta, recon, etc etc, with 200,000 marines in active duty alone that is not as elite as it sounds, of course you cant convince a marine of that, aside from schooling (no diploma) and tattoos, the only differance between the requirements to be in the army and marines is a little better cardio and you have to know how to swim, their commercials are cooler though.

  2. no - you have to have them all

  3. lets just say if ur in the army and u want to be a elite force u become a ranger

if in the navy and u want to become a elite force u become SEALS

BUT if ur in the marines u want to be a elite force u pass boot camp

  4. Kinda but every branch has their own special forces. Army has Rangers and Special Forces (Green Berets and Delta Force), Air Force has Combat Controllers and Pararescue, Navy has the SEALs, and the Marines have Marine Special Forces and Force Recon. All are part of the USSOC and those are the elite men.

  5. webassault, Force RECON are Marines, not Navy and they do allot more training than Seals. And you ever heard of MARSOC?

Marines are the most elite, most discipline, and well train branch of the US military. The Marine Silent Drill Platoon is the best in the US and is world ranked. Their peace time training is the most out of the other military branch. They are train to fight, while the Army is train to defend, that's why they're the first ones in.

They have an amazing battle history like at Belleau Wood or Chosin Reservoir. You should read about them.

"I have just returned from visiting the Marines at the front, and there is not a finer fighting organization in the world."

General Douglas MacArthur, USA, outskirts of Seoul, 21 September 1950.

  6. Yes, but...every branch has a ligitmate function.  Each is valuable.

  7. They are a very honorable part of a bigger organization - the United States Armed Forces.  Each part of DOD has it's own function but the Marines do depict the best of our country. Do you see soldiers, sailors or airman guarding our embassies or consulates worldwide?

By far their basic training is extremely difficult and it's not mistake when they say that you must earn the right to be called a United States Marine. It is a life altering experience.

While not as elite as our "special forces" they are a cut above the rest.

  8. Marine Special Forces? Hmmm..... never heard of em'.

Jarheads are jarheads. Their PT test and weapons qualification is one step above Army. Training requirements are sent down thru the Defense Department and to the individual branches. Each branch has a minimum thats exactly the same. After that they have branch specific training. In reference to Marines being elite..... haha no. They are half Army and half Navy. Their paychecks still say "Department of the Navy. The only thing elite about the Navy is Seals and Force Recon.

  9. I've worked with Marines and am the Dad of one. None better anywhere!

  10. Kind of a loaded question with your user name, now, don't you think?

You are obviously very proud of your service and rightfully so.  I do not wish to stroke your ego with a brown-nosed response.

    HOWEVER

The first responder had it right.  Every service has its function.  The Marine Corps does, however, do much more with much less and are as good or better at schwacking people than any other organization in the world.

So, if that meets your definition of elite, then the answer is yes.
