Question:

Question for those familiar with Blu-Ray discs?

I rented 300 last night because I have heard that it is absolutely amazing on Blu-Ray, however when I played the disc there was a problem. For some reason everyone's skin appeared as millions of little sparkling dots..that's not the best description but that's the only way I can think of to word it. Other parts of the movie looked beautiful but I just couldn't stand the people's skin/blodies looking so weird so I stopped the movie and put Ratatouille in.

Ratatouille looked PERFECT, but at one point in the movie it seemed to skip from one section to the next causing us to miss part of the movie.

Is it possible that I need to somehow clean the inside of my Blu-Ray player? Or, is it possible that since these discs were rented that their maybe just scratched/dirty? Whatever the case, how do I clean my Blu-Ray player/discs in case that is the problem?

Thanks for any help!

P.S. If it helps any I have a Sony SP-300

  1. Hi there

There is nothing wrong with your Blu-ray player, infact the film is supposed to look like that...

Blu ray & HDDV picture quality is amazing, but thats not how the director wants you to see it,  so they add noise and interlacing to give it a bit of atmosphere....

If you ever want to check out the reviews of Blue ray films you want to go to: www.highdefdigest.com

They will give you the best reviews of discs and quality.... here is the extract for '300'

.......'300' comes to Blu-ray and HD DVD as easily the most anticipated next-gen release of the summer. The surprise $200 million-plus blockbuster is, if nothing else, total CGI spectacle, so expectations are understandably through-the-roof that this will be the demo disc for every self-respecting home theater enthusiast.

Well, I'm going to put on my flame-proof suit and say that because the film has been so intentionally processed and "degraded," its very nature just doesn't lend itself to the kind of truly eye-popping and ultra-realistic high-def that I've come to equate with the term reference quality. Yes, I know that this is the way the film is "supposed to look," but when you're dealing with a source that is so over-contrasted and "crushed down" -- not to mention intensely desaturated and laced with so much video noise that it seems like a swarm of mosquitoes has infested your television -- for me, the "wow!" factor is lessened considerably........

  2. I have regular issues with HD and BluRay disks rented from Netflix - 300, Transformers, and few others.  I own Ratatoullie - and it IS PERFECT.

Check the surface of the disks for scratches and smudges - and maybe wipe it with soap and water.

Few weeks ago, I bough a VIVID CLEANER.  Not only  it helps to eliminate scratches - the DVDs look better and CDs sound better!  I was as skeptical as you might be now - but my local dealer showed me the difference on a couple of my DVDs and CDs.

Even my non-audiophile friends bought them!  Check it out at:
