I'm not that flexible so I was wondering if Yoga will make me more flexible. I was also wondering how you learned. Was it by a movie/book/website? I'm 16 and would really like to learn now so that I can do it for life. Any other info would be great too. Thanks in advance!

  1. Yeah you will become more flexible over time. I have a dvd.

Go to hmv or wh smiths or somewhere like that, there are bound to be dvds in there or look on the web for some good sites.

    Hope this helps!

  4. Very nice mindset! Yes, absolutely, yoga will make your body flexible. I suggest that you take a look at this free yoga e-course:

    All the best

  5. Yes, yoga will definitely make you more flexible.

If there are no classes near you, there are great DVDs you can get and stretch along to. It's step-by-step and leads to harder and harder stretches.

  6. Hi,

Yes it will.  Give it time though don't expect it to happen overnight.  I've been doing simple yoga stretches for years and it's keeping me flexible.

There's a good website that you should check out it will give you a good information.  Hope it helps.

  7. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoga

Envelop the philosophy, the rest will fall into place.

  8. Yeah I take yoga twice a week at this little yoga studio. When I started I couldnt even touch my toes and now i can . It definitally stretched my body out and made me way for flexible. From when i first started to now I am definitally able to do things that require flexibility that i couldnt do before

  9. It absolutely makes you more flexible.  Yoga originated in India by the monks who would meditate after doing yoga for hours and hours. They wanted all of their joints to be as flexible as possible so they wouldn't get kinks in their necks and stiff hips from sitting, etc. It indeed will strengthen your muscles as well as making you more flexible and balanced.

I found yoga by doing a cheap introductory course that lasted 9 or 10 weeks, only two days a week. I was astonished at how much more flexible I was by the end of those couple months, and from then on I just used online videos about yoga, dvd's about yoga, and books on poses.  I wouldn't suggest starting from a book because dvds, etc, can help you understand how to go from one pose to another, and when to breathe...plus it's really hard to read/look at the books when you're actually doing the yoga.  Be warned, you'll be more sore than you expect! I was in good shape from running and working out, but I was always sore the next day for the first few weeks.  Good luck! :)

  10. Hi

Yes, Yoga will make you more flexible, I took classes at the YWCA.  See what the community centers are offering in your area, it's usually alot cheaper that way. You can teach your self yoga and I'm sure they have video and books at the local library. If you don't have the cash to go. It's something that you will always use through out your life! They teach you how to keep your inner organs healthy and your mind so much clearer! And it's just the most fun thing too keep your body healthy!

  11. no it wont make u more flexy

  12. Yoga will definitely help you become more flexible. Make sure only to go as far as you can without feeling discomfort, and don't feel bad if a certain form is just too difficult to do in the beginning.

I started after reading about it at my college, just doing a few exercises in the morning when I wake up and then again at night just before I went to bed. Below is a page from about.com with a yoga routine for just that purpose :D

A great way to get more active is after finishing it in the morning to go for a ten minute walk around the block. You'll wake up and have more energy throughout the day :D

I completely forgot about the Wii Fit!

If you have a Wii, picking up the Wii fit is a great option. I'll admit it's not the same as going to a class, but this way you don't have to worry about feeling judged by strangers like at a class. The Wii fit is a good tool to get people who don't know much or who don't think they'll like yoga to at least try it, and it's a great tool for being more aware of your balance as well. If you want to get it, go for it, it's lots of fun and it won't hurt at all.

Although not all of the information on the forms in Wii fit are correct. It puts scores according to how well you did the form which adds a level of competition I don't think is appropriate for yoga, and also a dvd about yoga probably has more information on it for a couple hundred less dollars.

--ahem-- forgot something else <-- unreliable ^^

Learn to breath properly before you start. Deep breathing is the first and most important thing you have to learn.

Basically all you have to do is breath in deeply to your core, so your stomach stretches out. Breathing in through your nose, then breathing out through your nose. Deep slow breaths. If you can't breath through your nose, no worries, breath in through your nose and out through your mouth, or whatever works best for you. Breathing through your nose is best because it allows the air to heat to body temperature, as well as become more hydrated as it passes through your nasal cavity.

    Good luck ^_^

  13. It will make you more flexible.  I went to a class at the Y first.  Now I occasionally go to a class for companionship and to shake things up.  Otherwise I use tapes at home and do it when I feel like it.  I hear there is a Nintendo Wii fit Yoga. Someone here may have used it and can tell you about it.  I haven't.

I use several tapes, but think this one is quite good for beginners:

  14. movie series.

and i wasnt that flexible when i started either (couldn't even touch my toes)

its crazy, because now, i can extend well past my toes and feel fine

  15. It will absolutely make you more flexible.  Just start out with what you can do, and don't overdo it.  As you practice, you will see that you will gradually become more flexible.  Yoga and stretching in general is one of the best ways to keep your body "young".  I learned through videos mostly.

  16. Heck yea, makes you flexible like crazy. You know what that means in bed dont you. ;)))))

I started when i was 16, going to yoga classes i used to have a great teacher, now i know yoga so much i dont need a teacher.

    Just google Yoga.
