Question for those who know about bifocal contact lens?

I have astigmatism. Does anyone wear bifocal contacts or monovision contacts that correct astigmatism? Also can you get the contacts that are big? I have contacts for distance right now that are 20 percent bigger than normal because I have big pupils. Would I be able to get bifocal contacts 20 percent bigger?

  1. With monovision, thers's no additional problem with size, fit or astigmatic Rx, because it's the same fitting and Rx with a reading addition (usually somewhere between +1.00 and +2.50) added into the sphere power total on one eye.

The question with monovision is essentially whether the brain can adapt to it...

Personally, I wouldn't put the success rate higher than one in three, but those for whom it works tend to love it.

Most genuine bifocal/varifocal lenses don't come with astigmatic power options, and large pupils tend to be a contraindication for most types, tending to increase glare and blur (very small pupils are a problem, too!)

Limited options combining a toric and an multifocal do exist.

    (see below, just for examples)

It sounds as though monovision would be the obvious first thing to for you to try... and work through the options from there...
