Question:

Question for those who use the PACE curriculum?

I just started my 12yr old daughter on the PACE curriculum & she has English, Math, Word Building, Science, & Social Studies. I'm wondering how I should divide up her work each day. If I should have her do a PACE in each subject up to a checkpoint or how or what would be the best way to go about it. How do you have your children do them? Any added suggestions are welcome & appreciated. Thanks.

  1. I don't use the PACE curriculum, but I've seen it and it is very similar to something I used to use.  There are about 10-12 small workbooks per subject, per year if I am not mistaken.

    Figure out how many total pages you need to complete in each subject in order to complete the set in the time you need.  THen divide it up as close to that goal as possible.  Obviously, you won't stop in the middle of a paragraph because it falls on the "last page" you need complete, you might even finish an extra 2 or 3 pages one day in order to complete a section, and then do 2 or 3 less the next day, but make sure you average out at an amount that will complete the books on time.

    So, if you ten math books with 30 pages in each (I realize it won't be this simple, just my example though), then you have 300 pages to finish in the year.

    30x10=300

    Now, lets say your school year is 180 days long.  300 divided by 180 is 1.66.......

    Round up to 1.75, or even to 2.  Average between 1 3/4 and 2 pages each day and you would finish 300 pages easily in 180 days.

    Of course, you will find that many of the PACES will be much longer, and in some subjects you may find that you need to average 3 or even 6 pages a day.. but the idea is the same.

  2. You might try block scheduling and do only one course a day, but many lessons in that course.  It's much better for scheduling and staying on task.  We do a modified block - math daily, a different strand of Language Arts daily, and then the remaining time one other course per day.

  3. I actually teach at a Christian School that goes by the ACE PACE program. We are required to complete 25 pages a day total to keep on track. (5 pages per book) We set daily goals and they only have homework if they do not complete their goals. Work her through the check ups she may stop if the second page is the goal for the next day. It really works if you have her to set daily goals.
