Question

the piston has a displacemet of 10cm rises and falls 50 times per second. Calculate average acceleration that occurs between the start/stop point and the middle of the cycle?

Hint

this occurs 50 times a minute. With 50 times 20cm, u can figure out the average speed in m/s. Then I would calculate the piston needs to travel the 5 cm to thr midpoint. if you take formula for acceleration: s=(1/2)at² and turn things around a bit, I think you'll have it

Find a= m/s²

Hopefully anyone from here can help me. Thanks

  1. Displacement tells nothing about the stroke.

    Could be a small bore with a long stroke, a long stroke with a small bore.

    And, is it, 50/sec.,or 50/min?

    And are you running nitro, or alcohol, naturally aspirated, or turbo injected?

  2. They gave you the answer already, but not quite sure what they gave you is complete!

    Displacement is physics term for directed distance.

    For 50 cycles/sec, each cycle is 1/50 sec. Each cycle consists of an upstroke and a down stroke, so 1/100 sec per stroke, and 1/200 sec per 1/2 stroke.

    s = 5cm = 1/2 * a * (1/200)²

    Rearranging,

    a [in cm/sec²] = 5cm * 2 /(1/200)²
