  1. No need for any special preparation, just be polite and friendly to everyone (regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, religion etc).

You can find work at www.seek.com.au or www.careerone.com.au, just be careful not to breach the conditions of your visa.

You can find accommodation at www.domain.com.au, or your university may be able to help you find student accommodation.

    Good luck

  2. I agree with the post above.  Just be friendly and honest.  We are welcoming.

  3. There's nothing I can add to this... The first 3 answerers said it all... and said it well.

I hope you enjoy your stay here.  :o)

  4. On a student visa, you can only work up to 20 hours per week during the semester and unlimited hours during vacation breaks. The 20 hours and needing to fit in with lectures etc. will limit your options to some degree so waiting on tables, fast food or perhaps retail will be the most likely occupations for you. I know in Brisbane, every shopping centre has staff wanted signs in cafes and shops so there is obviously a lot of work to be had.

Student services or the student union at your uni should be able to put you on the track for shared accomodation and the local newspapers and online will also have many advertisements for shared or single housing.

Apart from that, just bring yourself, an open mind and a friendly smile. You'll find Aussies as a whole to be welcoming and friendly.
