Question mark on Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Rashard Mendenhall for playoff – NFL News
The Pittsburgh Steelers said an MRI scan due later this week will confirm the status of the injury to their linebacker Rashard Mendenhall who was injured in their game against the Cleveland Browns on past Sunday.
Mendenhall was injured in the first quarter of the Browns game and was inspected by the teams’ medical staff before being sent to the team’s locker room. He did not show up for rest of the three quarters.
"It's not good, of course, when a guy goes down in open grass and is not touched by anyone," coach Mike Tomlin said. "Experience tells me that, in general, that's not good."
The player was later seen on crutches and with an apparent sign disappointment on his face, raising fears he might have had a serious injury, which could end up finishing postseason games for him.
Some reports have hinted at that his team fears that Mendenhall might have torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
However, there was no independent confirmation either from the team’s coach or any other member of the team of the reports of ACL being true. If so it could be a bad news for his side who have qualified for postseason round of the National Football league
(NFL).
Irrespective to the scan results which are awaited at this moment of time the coach confirmed that the linebacker will not join his squad for practice this week. This could lead to prove the fears of his ACL injury true.
It was another outstanding year for the Steelers linebacker. However, he ended up to put up 1000 this year after having made it to the mark twice for last two seasons. This year he finished 928 yards, but might have reached 1000 yards if was not hurt in
the first quarter of his last game.
His injury may not serve the Steelers well into their hopes for getting it through to final stage of the league, the Super Bowl event. They are already not comfortable with the performance of their quarterback Ben Roethlisberger currently nursing his ankle
injury.
Ben played the weekend game but was apparently short of his potential making quite a few fumbles in between his plays.
The Steelers won their last game to qualify for the playoff this season. However, despite the win they fell short of claim the American Football Conference (AFC) north title or a bye in the playoff, both went to their archrivals the Baltimore Ravens.
