Question:

Question on 1 foot spin (again)?

I just want to ask some clarification regarding the 1 foot spin:

1. on the entry LFO edge, how long does the edge have to be? I see some skaters who can do the spin and their entry edges appear shorter than mine. Does it matter if i make a half heart shape or a semi circle?

2. is there a three turn after the LFO edge before the skater starts spinning? i have been getting mixed advice on this. and if there is, how big does it have to be?

Thanks!

  1. From experiance, the LFO edge should be as long as possible to get a good spin. At my rink, way back when I was learning a one foot spin, I had to turn one, quite large circle on the ice, then start spinning. Holding a longer edge will help with other spins later on, for example, the camel. Everybody should hold a long edge, but some people do it with more speed as they become more advanced which may make it look like they are not doing it. As far as I am aware, there is not a 3-turn after the LFO edge.

    Good luck!

  2. 1.)to get a good spin you would have to try and do a heart shape. how it works is you make sort of like a loop and don't pull in until u feel that "hook". that is what makes that tight curve. my coach brew a half heart on the ice and i had to follow it and that is how I learnd and it works great!

2.) There is NOT a three turn after the LFO. This means that you didn't wait long enough and havent felt that "hook". You prevent this by making a half heart!

Hope I helped and good luck! : ]

  3. Holdt the edge as long as you can. If you're scratching or finding it hard to rotate you've cut the edge short. You shouldn't hve a 3-turn, that would also mean that you haven't held the edge. It's the same with any spin, you can't try to pull into it too quickly or you wont actually spin properly, as someone else said, you need to feel a "pull". (Make sure you keep your  shoulders square =D)

       Good luck.

  4. the LFO edge should be as long as u can make it.
