  1. The original bronze potrait which inspired this copy is lost to us today. The original statue is traditionally atrributed to Lysippus, a sculptor working for Alexander the Great, and dated around 330 - 325 BCE. There is a marble portrait of

    Aristotle which is a Roman copy (2nd century bc) of this Greek original (c. 325 bc); in the Museo Nazionale Romano, Rome.

    This would have been a good likeness, since Lysippus (370-310) would certainly have know Aristotle (384-322) who was the tutor of Alexander the Great whose portrait Lysippus also sculpted.
