Why aren't we able to remove carbon dioxide from the air in the atmosphere? Is there a scientific way to decrease the amount of carbon dioxide in the air, instead of just limiting the amount we release?

  1. we breathe out carbon dioxide. How can it harm earth? huh huh? huh? huh? huh? huh?

  2. i don't know any scientific way, but i want to adress my opinion.

Every gas in the earth is needed for many reasons.for example, oxygen helps fire to spread and carbon dioxide reduces it. So that is a good use of carbon dioxide.

If i had to suggest, we have to plant a lot of trees, because they will use the carbon dioxide.

  3. I have heard they are trying to reduce the CO2 emissions for coal and some other fossil fuels, but I'm not sure how.  I haven't seen enough about it to even get a general understanding.  I know some research has been done on storing what has been removed in old oil and gas wells, but this is a very new area of study.  The wells must be air tight and made not to leak.

I also suspect that CO2 is such a minor component of the atmosphere that it is not cost effective to remove it directly from the air, but I don't really know.  Most of this answer is speculation.

  4. Haha! Yes, and it's so simple it's mind boggling.

    Trees.

Trees 'inhale' Co2, and 'exhale' oxygen.

Plant enough trees, and we could drive our SUV's for as long as we want.

Only problem is, we're cutting them down WAY faster than it takes for them to grow.

    "Deforestation"

    "Raping the rainforest" and

    "Treehuggers"

are common words we hear related to that topic.
