Out of your little ‘corner of the world’ what are the 5 BEST things about living there?

Also name 3 things you don’t like about it, or would want to change.

I lived there too and travel yearly.

Five things I like:

The People

The Market Centers

The Cobbel Roads

The Transportation system

Bratwurst

Three things I do not care for:

Are getting more strict on their rules for smoking and drinking

Do not have much National Pride but I DO understand why Bernd where most foreigners do not.

Still too much separation of former East & West still.

Well, it's a calm life in here. Despite to its economical position, the people and politicians of the country (most times) try not to be a major factor in world politics. Patriotism is rather weak, which may seem strange to foreigners but has some advantages. Usually, debates are tried to be focused on the facts.

Thanks to the social systems, you can be sure, no matter how bad your life may ever go and besides all daily worries, your situation will never get seriosly dangerous to you.

Also, compared to most other countries, life standard is quite high.

Then, I would not want to forget about the landscape, which offers really nice sceneries, no matter if about nature or historical buildings.

And fifth, honesty is an important value to most people in here, so, if you're a bit naive, like I am, still you won't be fooled all the time.

Rather negative things...

Erm... I don't know, if I should mention the burden of some really dark historical chapters in here, as it gives the chance to learn from it as well, but it feels strange and sad, what some of the olders were part of, and not to be sure, if one would not have been among them, if born some decades earlier.

Another thing would be, it's told, Germans prefer mourning instead of trying to change things. I'm afraid, that's true. After all, many people, including me, tend to accept things quickly, even if they don't agree.

And third: german humor hasn't got a good reputation, often for a good reason.

If you allow me, one more: Some people in here are really fanaticly obsessed of cars or football (soccer).

I hope, you're satisfied with the things, that came to my mind.

Good things about Germany:

-safe

-mellow (everyone follows rules quietly & peacefully)

-the men are super hot

-cute x-mas markets

-die bahn

Bad things about Germany:

-the cheapest people I've ever met in my life

-july feels like october

-not a big selection of food

-everyone is obsessed with education and staying in school until they are like 40 (ok, slight exaggeration...but it is sad nontheless)

-you rarely hear laughter - Germans are generally very serious

Although I am not from Germany, I lived there for 5 years and you might appreciate an outsider view.

Here are my 5 best things about living in Germany:

1. You can leave your car or house unlocked and not worry about it. They have very low crime rate.

2. The sceneries are to die for. Beautiful landscapes and historic places are breathtaking!

3. Life seem to be slower than it is, compared to US or France.

4. People seem receptive of people who speaks a different language.

5. Autobahn!

Now for what I didn't like when I lived there:

1. People smoked everywhere! Even banks have ash trays, there were no designated smoking areas in public places.

2. You can get lost easily because their directionals do not say if you are going north, south, east or west.

3. Customer Service is, well.... as they say in German "nicht so gut!"(not so good).

well, I have 2 things I disagree with.

1. You can't smoke everywhere, it's banned now from all public places and bars, restaurants, etc. (since January 1)

2. The weather is NOT always bad, we do have hot summers, after all it depends on where in Germany you live, in the south (especially Black Forest area) it's always warmer than in the rest of Germany.

I don't live there anymore for these 3 reasons:

1.  The weather - sucks!  always rainy, cloudy and cold.  No summers at all.

2.  People can be quite reserved and rude (in Berlin).  

3.  Life in general is more difficult on a day to day basis (as a non-German).

Otherwise I really liked it there.
