so i saw a question regarding this same topic, and people explained that there was just more throughput in the 2.0 slot, but heres my question that i still wasn't really sure of.

Will a card that says "PCI-E 2.0" run on a "PCI-E x16" slot?

i think the answer is yes, but it wont give as much power, or smoethin like that.

  1. question on PCI-E 2.0 and PCI-E 2.0???

    ok PCI-E x16 means its an 16 pins slot....an PCI-E x8 can work on a 16 pin slot.....

PCI-E 2.0 is the version, it will work perfectly, just not at the MAX power.. and it also depends on your motherboard

check out the specs on your mother board

  2. its not specificly designed to. the x16 slot is for video cards and the x2 slot is for networking/video capture cards

  3. yes it will work in a normal PCI-e slot but at half the bandwidth which will decrease the speed at which he information travels between the card and the computer.

  4. PCIe 2.0 effectively doubles bandwidth and offers better flexibility, while maintaining compatibility with PCIe 1.1
