How does this equation handle gases that are not at STP? Please include an example

  2. Of course.  That's the whole point.

    If all gases were at STP, chemistry would be awfully dull.

    Suppose we have 0.500 moles of nitrogen gas in a 200 mL container at a temperature of 1000 C.  What will be the pressure of the gas?

    P = nRT / V

    P = 0.500 mol x (0.0821 Latm/molK) x 1273K / 0.200 L

    P = 261 atm.

    261 atm is certainly not standard pressure.
