Question on Password hashing?

Anyone know anything about "Password hashing" on encryption programs?

I currently use Drivecrypt, but was going to try Trucrypt. Drivecrypt has Password hashing, but Truecrypt does not seem to have it- so is Trucrypt less secure because of the Hashing issue?

And what does Hashing do excactly??

  1. In any encryption process, poor keys can be chosen. Password hashing is a mapping of your easy to remember password to an encryption key that is hard to break.

Truecrypt uses a different algorithm for encryption, where the paucity of bad keys means password hashing doesn't add any security.
