Question on Pro-Choice: At what point in a pregnancy would you play music to your unborn child?

It occurs to me that many women will play music to their unborn children (for whatever reason).

I was actually wondering from a pro-choice perspective, at what point would it be apropriate to play music to your unborn?

(I am a pro-choice male)

  1. I played music to my tummy once I started showing. I don't think the baby could actually hear it at first but I still did it. And you know what I would play the same cd once my other 2 children were born and the cd put them right asleep I guess it reminded them of the womb.

  2. Baby's ears are developed enough at 18-20 weeks to start to hear noises outside the uterus. I don't plan on playing music especially for baby, but do listen to it often. It's nice to know that the baby can hear us talking to him.

  3. Whatever does pro-choice have to do with this?

Many people play music to their child from conception, simply because they're listening to it themselves. I don't know anyone who actively played music to their child that they themself did not enjoy.

  4. They can hear at somewhere around 20 weeks so that's when I would.

  5. for me it was when i started to feel her moving, she became much more real to me then, like a proper little person. that was 17 weeks. by which point if i was considering termination, it would be far too late (not legally, but morally in my mind), and yes, im pro choice - within reason.

i disagree with it being used as birth control.

i disagree with late term abortions of its not done for a good medical reason.

i disagree with partial birth abortions - its barbaric.

  6. I think playing music at any point in pregnancy is appropriate. Of course there is a stage later on when the baby begins to be able to hear the music, but the mother can get a good feeling from certain music and it helps her to feel close to the unborn baby and I believe babies in utero react to the mothers feelings/stress levels.

I can't see what being pro-choice has to do with it as I have long considered myself to be pro-choice and I am a mother and currently pregnant again.

  7. What does your question have to do with Pro-choice? It is not even a related idea.

Baby's ears are developed around 4 months or so (about 18 weeks) but sometimes they are not able to hear outside the womb until much later, depends on the development of each individual baby. I played both my children music in the womb but haven't started playing it yet for my in-utero daughter b/c I haven't had time but I will get to it soon.

  8. Why would it have to be pro-choice or pro-life thing? That makes no sense.

  9. Why does this have ANYTHING to do with being pro-choice or pro-life?????

*Oh I guess so you can see when people think the baby is human, or has human senses? Either, way it is odd.

Anyway. I'm not stating my opinion on either. But I don't play music to my child - I guess my husband started talking to him when I started showing (about 18 weeks).

  10. When I first learned of my pregnancy!  I believe it is never too soon to bring music into each life!

  11. i am proudly PRO-LIFE and i do play music to my baby although i dont understand what difference does it make to answer this question whether you are pro-choice or not

  12. i don't think it has anything to do with pro-choice....

i read that even when the baby is 10 weeks, if you play music to him, he will actually receive the vibrations, so, its good for him.

they start listening at 5 months or so, so that's when you should start playing mozart and this sort of classical music, because it helps develop math skills and other skills.... but you should play all kinds of music, because they all make different vibrations and different stimulations to your baby....

right now, I'm 35 weeks and i know exactly what music relaxes my baby and what music makes him move like crazy....

  13. I started letting my son listen to music at about 4 months, wasn't sure if he could hear it by then, but just in case I let him lol. I am against abortion, but I'm not really sure what that has to do with the question of when did you let your baby listen to music.

  14. I don't think that pro-choice or pro-life needs to factor into this question.

If a person has decided to carry a pregnancy to term, they should want what is best for the child regardless of what options they gave themselves permission to have before the conception of the child.

I have actually read about and seen several science-based television programs that discuss why a person should not intentionally expose an unborn child to music.  It actually hurts their ability to hear things more clearly later in life.

There is already enough noise and exposure to music around them without it needing to be blasted into the moms abdomen.

I think it's just been within the past few decades that people thought this to even be an option.

Exposure to music is not necessary and does not help the child in any way.

  15. From what I've read, as early as 12 weeks - 16 weeks.  Both of my babies moved for the very first time while playing them music in the womb, through headphones on my belly.  (That was at 20 weeks with my first, and at 16 weeks with my second.)  12 weeks is debatable, but as someone else mentioned, even if they are not actually hearing the music, they can feel the vibrations.

I do have to agree with most of the others, though... I can't see any connection between the actual question and whether or not you are for or against abortion.  ?!
