Question on a Navy Job

After taking a "Interest Match Test" on Military.com, I got a bunch of different results, however this is one of my favorite jobs that popped up on the Navy Side.

Military Job Title: Law Enforcement and Security Officer, Shore Activity

Branch: Navy

Civilian Job Title: Criminal Investigators and Special Agents

Description: Investigate alleged or suspected criminal violations of Federal, state, or local laws to determine if evidence is sufficient to recommend prosecution.

With all of that, would you say I would be deployed often?

Where is The "A" School for this rating?

Etc

  1. FBI Academy is good for you.

  2. Go to http://www.mynavyonline.com for more detailed info.

  3. Um, there's no enlisted rate with that title... I'm pretty sure that's an officer's position (Which means no "A" school).  It would most likely require either a law degree or similar to be considered as a candidate.  And the position description clearly states that it's a shore command.

There's really only two enlisted rates in the Navy which have anything to do with law and law enforcement: Legalman and Master-at-Arms.

    Here's a description of each:

Legalmen are trained legalaides who assist professionals in the field of law. They work in Navy legal offices, performing administrative and clerical tasks necessary to process claims, conduct court and administrative hearings. They maintain records, documents and legal reference libraries. Legalmen may give advice on tax returns, voter registration procedures, immigration and customs regulations, regulations governing Social Security and veterans' benefits. They perform many duties related to courts-martial and nonjudicial hearings.

Masters-at-Arms uphold law and order aboard ships, shore stations and deploy overseas with expeditionary forces and squadrons performing Antiterrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) duties. The basic duty of an MA is to enforce rules and regulations, maintain good order and discipline, and protect life and property. Some other duties include conducting criminal investigations, personal protective services, take part in correctional and rehabilitative programs, Military Working Dog (MWD) handlers, small arms instruction, lethal and non-lethal weapons training, and organize and train sailors assigned to Shore Patrol police duty. Their equivalents in the civilian world are detectives and policemen.

Sorry, but you gotta be an officer to hold a cool title like "Law Enforcement and Security Officer".

Oh, and I just found this... Wikipedia actually has a ratehr nice list of the current enlisted rates in the Navy.  I got out back in '96 so some things might have changed since then...
