Question:

Question on calcium chews?

I recently bought calcium chews from GNC. I do not drink much milk other then cereal on weekends. The only form I think I may get is in my multi-vitamin and yogurt. Not sure if other stuff (ex. power pars, protein shakes...) has it too.

But from the above info how I dont drink milk much is it ok to take these calcium chews?

Will I get kidney stones?

Can it be beneficial to me at such a early age?

I am 16 years old

  1. How much calcium and what type of calcium is in the supplement?  It is probably fine to take a low dose calcium supplement, but it you have any medical problems you should talk to your doctor or nutritionist first.  I usually suggest my patients who want an "insurance" supplement (as opposed to treating a diagnosed deficiency) take between 200-400mg of calcium citrate/magnesium per day.  You should not have any issues with kidney stones at this level unless you have kidney disease or a history of stones.

    Good luck!
