ive only passed my tests a few weeks ago, i have a corsa as my first little run around. im having one of those issues where ive thought about something too much and now confused myself rotten!

on a few occasions when changing down gears the car seems to jump... why is this! Am i travelling to fast for the lower gear or am i doing something wrong with my feet, i never had this problem once during my lessons or test and i cant understand where im going wrong!

im sure when you give me the answer i'll be like ''duh, obviously''!

  1. thats the thing with manual cars, they are not smooth while changing gears unlike automatic cars.

  2. If you release your clutch too fast &/or you're still holding your gas down when you down shift, your car will jump. Same thing when you down shift from 4th to 2nd, that's double gear reduction, causing your car to pull back hard & fast.

  3. putting your clutch up too fast with gear changing

  4. U got a zoo in yah car? lol

  5. sounds like you may be travelling too fast for the lower gear.  Either that or you are jumping your foot off the clutch too soon.  I would think the first one though.

  6. Take a little bit more time releasing you clutch.but you may be going faster than you should for that gear. Have a look at the handbook it should tell you the correct speeds. 9orRPM if you have a rev. counter)

Gear 1 to move change to 2 at aboyt 20 change to 3 and at abot 30 change to 4 and  change to 5th about 40  same changing down. yopiur ccar is telling you that you are a bit rough it wil also tell  you when you are about right. ittells you if you are in toohigh a gear and also too low. 30 odd years on I still hear my instructor saying, 2whathe hel lare you doing that for?" when the engine note is wrong.

Fret not you are now learning how to drive

  7. Your not being smooth enough when you release the clutch pedal.  It is a skill that needs to be mastered like anything else.
