Why is it that lead is in the 4th group but the charge is Pb2 instead of Pb4 ?

  1. lead has many valences, due to all those electrons whirling about.


  2. You are confusing ionic bonding with covalent bonding.  

  3. because of how many electrons are in it, its a diatomic element so thats why it has the 2

  4. It is because some elements ( in the middle of periodic table, transition metals or something i think ) they may have 1 or 2 valencies. For example Lead 2 ,4  Iron 2,3  and yeah.

    1 element may have more than one valency ( overall charge of the electrons )

  5. Lead has 4 electrons in its outer shell but it's difficult to gain four more or lose four in order to have a full electron shell.
