"A pair of speakers is seperated by 1.5 meters. They are both sending out a single souind wave of 500 Hertz. A person, initially 12 meters away from the closest of the two speakers, begins to walk away from the speakers. How far must he walk before reaching a Maximum? A Minimum?"

Could you please detail how you come up with an answers, and perhaps explain the terms Maximum and Minimum in this context as well?

  1. The loud speakers set up an interference pattern. You can use the speed of sound and the frequency to work out how long one wave is.

Where the peak from both speakers overlap a maximum will be present. Where the peak from one speaker overlaps a trough from the other a minimum will form as they cancel each other out.
