Question:

Question on the name Sienna?

My daughter is 2 and her name is Sienna Kate. I often call her Sisi Kate or Sienna Kate. I am starting to wonder if 'Kate' might be a better name for her to go by regularly. Her siblings are Callie and Chase and I think that may go better also?

I wonder if I should give her the choice when she starts school if she'd like to be called Kate or Sienna or how to approach it?

Please don't respond if you're going to brass, just looking for an opinoin.

Thanks :)

  1. Sienna is very pretty

    Let her choose herself

    xx

  2. i would give her a choice

  3. That is a really pretty name.

But I think that when she starts school, give her the option of names

  4. You should have named her Sienna Avalon.

  5. Just mention it to her! Ask her if it would be fun for people to start calling her Kate. Most kids like having "nick names" anyways. Plus, you could always start calling her Kate and see how she responds

  6. I see nothing wrong with Sienna. I would just stick with calling her by her first name. The teachers probably will anyways.

  7. I would let her decide which one she prefers to be called. Maybe stick with the nickname or full name for now, but when she's old enough sit her down & ask which name she wants to be called. I think either name is really cute.

  8. I think personally that Sienna is a gorgeous name - its pretty, feminine and yet strong enough to see a child through to her adult professional life. I don't see a problem with the name as it stands :] Although Kate is another lovely name, I think Sienna is more original. I know if I was given the choice, I'd rather stand out as a Sienna than another Kate. There was obviously a reason you named your daughter Sienna first over Kate, try to think back to this and this might help you evaluate your decision.

If you want to give your daughter the option, why not hyphenate her name? "Sienna-Kate" as her first name would give her this option in any case. My friend is named Kimberley-Lou and she goes by Lou over Kimberley.

  9. Yes, give her the choice and let her decide. I let my younger son choose which name he preferred. He chose his middle name wich is Daniel. So, everyone knows him now as Dan.

  10. There's nothing wrong with Sienna!  While it's not my personal style, since I tend to choose very old-fashioned names, it's a good choice if you like something modern, feminine, and pretty.  Callie, Chase, and Sienna sound just fine together.

I love the name Kate as well, and it is a bit more old-fashioned (which I like).  However, since Sienna is her given first name, and the one she's used to hearing as her first name, I would let her continue to go by it.  If at some point she turns out to be a rather old-fashioned girl (or a girl who prefers a simple, straightforward, no-frills sort of name), she will always have Kate as an option to fall back on.  School-age children are perfectly capable of deciding on their own that they'd like to go by something else, and they'll let you and others know if they want to go by something else.  If you hear her complaining about her first name, you could always broach the subject then.  (This usually happens some time between fifth grade and high school.)  Otherwise, I'd just leave it as it is.

  11. My brothers girlfriend is 17 weeks pregnant.

Sienna is one of the names she considered, but she decide against it. Partly because everyone kept telling her how awful it was, but mainly because she couldn't find anything suitable that it could be shortened too. She said that people would probably shorten it to See or Si ( pronounced sigh )

Kate is an ok name, a bit plain and old fashioned in my opinion though.

  12. i love sienna and give her the choice

  13. I think both are lovely names.  If you regularly call her Sienna Kate, then just going by Kate may not be too much of an adjustment.  I would definitely let her decide before she starts school because once the children know her by a certain name, it will be very difficult to change it.  I think you should go with what your daughter feels comfortable with.  She may not be able to decide at 2-years-old, but pretty soon she'll definitely let you know what she likes and what she doesn't like :)  Good luck!
