I have been searching for a Gap wedge online for 2 days. I want a cleveland CG11 wedge. whenever it asks me to pick a shaft flex it only allows a STEEL shaft in the "WEDGE" FLEX.

I am fine with steel shafts but i do not no what wedge flex means

Can anybody tell me what wedge flex is?(is it like regular, womens, stiff, or senior flex??)

TEN POINTS TO BEST ANSWER(must be in depth)

  1. The flex of the shaft is how much it bends when swinging. A wedge is not going to bend much since it is shorter than the other clubs. Besides you won't swing the wedge hard enough to get much flex. Stiff is fine.

The D3 and D4 is the swing weight of the club. D4 is heavier than the D3. The difference is like taping half a dime on the head of the D3 to make it the same as the D4. Very little difference don't worry about it.

  2. The flex in the wedge is going to be pretty stiff, due to its shorter length.  Usually the only option is steel or graphite for your wedges.  Most wedges, Cleveland, Titleist... will have the name "wedge" where you would normally see :stiff, regular...

  3. Wedge flex is generally softer than iron flex, primarily for feel on the less than full shots. On these shots too stiff a shaft and you will feel like you are swinging a plank. In the end it depends what you mainly use your wedges for, if they are primarily used as another iron then maybe look at keeping them the same flex as your irons, if they are mainly used for shorter shots then a softer flex may help.

Also, softer flex generally = more spin, whether the difference is noticable depends who you talk to!

  4. Stiff would be the closest approximation.  Most standard cleveland wedges use the Dynamic gold Wedge flex which goes in the S-300 range.  a pretty stiff shaft.  Wedge flex  shafts have a High kick point which helps with getting the ball up.   The D 3.5 swing weight is a tad baffling as Clevelands shaft specs list 4.5 as the lightest swingweight available.

  5. Don’t worry about the shaft flex of wedges. They are going to be very stiff, probably X-flex. All, or virtually all, stock, OME, wedges will have wedge flex shafts.

D3 is slightly lighter than D4. Again, it is a very slight difference, not something to worry about.
