  1. Hi James, trains leaving St Pancras do not serve any east coast stations although trains from both St Pancras & Kings Cross serve Wakefield & Leeds but the service from Kings Cross is far more frequent & faster. Trains from St Pancras serve station in the East Midlands & South Yorkshire such as Bedford, Leicester, Nottingham, Derby, Sheffield with certain services starting or finishing at Leeds..

The line you saw near Kings Cross passing overhead was almost certainly the North London Line which runs from Stratford to Richmond, see link below. I believe these services are operated by Silverlink.

  2. Some late afternoon Midland Mainline services travel as far as Leeds, some via the ECML. 18:25 and 19:25 are examples. The Master Cutler is an early morning departure from Leeds to St. Pancras.

The bridges shortly after leaving KX/STP are the Channel Tunnel Rail Link and then the North London Line. The latter runs from Stratford to Richmond.
