If you suspect you have a tumor in the colon and you just had a cat scan that showed nothing would that be a good indication that it has not spread past the colon wall?

  1. Hi Chip......

It sure is a good sign but lets take this a step further to be sure and give you some peace of mind.

Have your MD schedule you for a Colonoscopy with a Gastrointerologist who will, under medication slide a small camera up (gross I know) your r****m to looks see.

It is the gold standard of tests to make sure your colon is free from polyps and.or any other forms of cancer.  It can be done in one morning on an outpatient visit.

    I wish you well.

  2. Yes it is a good indication it has not spread beyond the colon wall especially if it showed nothing at all, as it will usually at least show colon wall thickening. This does not mean however that you do not have a tumor in the colon at all.

Because you have had a CT I’m sure you are under the care of a physician for this problem and are probably scheduled for a colonoscopy. Cancer does not have to be confirmed by an oncologist and some colon cancer patients never see an oncologist. Also colon cancer can be determined by examination. I have seen several patients who have had colon resections even with a negative biopsy, because the doctor who did the colonoscopy saw the tumor and knew it was cancer. Good luck I hope everything goes well for you.

  3. If it showed nothing that would be a good indication that you don't have a tumor of the colon period.  If you're still concerned you should ask for a colonoscopy.

  4. You can not get confirmation of any disease especially cancer by mere suspicion and it has got to be confirmed by an Oncologist on conducting certain important tests. Colon cancer  is a disease which can not be assessed by mere examination.

You get the correct result by a CAT Scan which will be accurate.

CAT computerized axial tomography, X-ray technique that allows relatively safe, painless, and rapid diagnosis in previously inaccessible areas of the body. If nothing is found in CAT scan you can safely believe the disease has not spread to any part of colon. -
