Do you have to be ceretifed to have organic soil? whats the difference between organic and regular soil? How long does it take to be ceretifed to become organic?(if you have to be ceretifed?)

  1. organic certification is for the marketing of organic foods. it takes a 3 year transition period where the grower must follow all the regulations and undergo inspections before their soil can be certified organic. Only farmers who are certified organic can use the term organic when selling/marketing food.

    if you are not selling what you sow there is no need for certification. You can have "organic" soil without the USDA certification simply by using organic management techniques in your garden such as composting, cover crops, avoiding synthetic pesticides and fertilizers like the plague
