I am 19 weeks pregnant with number 5 and due in January of 2009. Having been 'around the block' a few times already, I'm pretty comfortable with the normal aches and pains of pregnancy, labor and delivery. This time around, though, everything is just crazy! My thyroid levels are off (TSH 0.04 and T3 300, and totally predating the pregnancy), rendering me hyperthyroid and giving me some lovely side effects to boot. I'm now on 200mg daily of Metoprolol (a beta blocker) to control my heart rate, and now my hemoglobin (I believe) dropped big time in the span of a couple of weeks sending me back to the lab for even more blood work. I'm seriously taking a ridiculous amount of medicine each day just to keep things 'normal'! So far, I have not been given meds to control the thyroid stuff and I don't know if this is normal or not. All I know is the high risk doctor will be checking out and measuring my little guy often to make sure he is growing alright over the next 20 weeks or so as a result of the beta blocker. So, I guess my main questions are these:
Has anyone been in a similar situation as this? Do you have any info, advice, anything to help me understand what's going on? No one will give me a straight answer regarding my thyroid numbers: is it mild hyper, moderate hyper, or what? Is it possible for the Metoprolol to help these numbers out? I was able to have a natural birth (no epi, no meds) with baby 4 and was really looking forward to doing the labor at home and no meds this time around, too (the super fast recovery time rocked!). Will this be possible, or will some of my 'issues' keep this from happening? Believe me, I am asking these questions and more at my plethora of doctor appointments, but sometimes it’s nice to get real people answers, too.
Thank you very much for your answers and time!
