  3. You can go all the way down to 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32

Yeah, they basically double each time, so theoretically you could get 1B of ram, though the smallest amount of RAM i've ever heard of is 128KB of RAM (though i guess they did have smaller amounts), you would find this amount in very very old computers. Today we think of RAM in MBs and GBs, and as the person above me said, 32MB is about the minimum you would be likely to find these days.

    Following this rule; the 3GB you list could not be obtained by one module, it would have to be something like two 1GB and two 512MB modules or something similar (If your motherboard doesn't require you to install in pairs you could have a 2GB and a 1GB module).
