Question:

Question regarding dirtbike/ATV?

(I had asked this question a few weeks ago but all I received was a stupid, irrational response.)

I have been very fond in motorcycles, dirtbikes, and ATVs since a very young age. I am hoping to purchase either an 08 Yamaha TTR230 (dirtbike) or an 08 Yamaha Raptor 250 (ATV) soon. I live in Southern California, I am 17 years old and have been driving for at least 2 years with no accidents or tickets (and I plan to keep it that way).

When I go to the dealership, I am expecting to be paying for:

-the ATV or dirtbike

-proper off-roading gear

I have done some research but I still have a few problems and questions. I am a bit unsure about the whole registration and insurance process and would like to know how that all works.

I would appreciate if someone could also tell me or give me a rough estimate on how much I will be paying for registration and insurance. Like I said, I am 17, no accidents, and I live in Southern California.

Thank you all for your time.

  1. LOL, a 17 year old on a 250 Raptor or TTR230 hahaha

  2. $50 biannual registration cost, and that is the whole deal.

    */End of Line.

  3. are you going to be racing? or just casual riding like trail or sand dunes? some tracks require insurance but most tracks dont require insurance. In fact I have never hear of a track requiring insurance, never been to one myself. Most offroading parks dont require insurance as well. It is very rare that you would crash into another person, so unless you are planning to crash a lot and do heavy damage (which probably wont happen)- dont buy insurance for your dirt bike, or atv. If you plan to get a dirt bike and to street legalize your dirt bike then look for insurance, but it will be rated as a 230cc street motor bike, not a dirt bike. Also just some advice, I have a dirt bike (suzuki rm125) and in my experience riding a dirt bike is a lot harder offroad than an ATV. The steep hills are sometimes really a challange in the trails, you cannot pause for a second with a dirt bike...just speed through everything and I will admit I used to fall all the time, and sometimes I still do. but the sand dunes are really fun and easy! dirt bikes in my opinion are more fun to ride but ATVs are way easier, so be prepared to fall A LOT if you plan to ride forest trails with a dirt bike, but especially as a beginner, trust me I have been riding for almost a 2 years, and I'm barely past that stage haha

  4. 0.00$  bcuz you cant reggy and insure a dirt bike or atv for street legal use...
