Question regarding the Quran?

In chapter 12 Verse 2 the author of the Quran says

12:2 behold, We have bestowed it from on high as a discourse in the arabic tongue, so that you might encompass it with your reason.

If this above verse is true. Then why does the Quran require interpretation (Tasfeer)? Even if you was fluent in Arabic would you really know what the Quran is actually saying? And if so then why does your opinion differ to hundreds of others?

  1. Tasfeer is just so you understand the meaning.. some people might not understand a verse so they need this for better understanding.. PEople who speak arabic understand the exact Words of the Qur'an.. becase that was the original language that it was given by Allah to the Prophet(salalahu alayhi wa salam).. but the reason why it needs interpration or an explanation of the verse.. is becuase there are people who dont have much understanding or knowledge, so they do not understand some of the verses.

  2. Tafseer is required for deep understanding.

Everybody do not have same level of wisdom and understanding. So, those who have achieved good understanding of Quran, writes tafsir fo those who does not achieve such understanding. Also, everybody can't give their full life for Quran, so it is always better to share the knowledge.

BTW, it is not clear why you think that having tafsir is contrary to thise verse!!

  4. Indeed, the Qur'an is an Arabic text, and the original text has been preserved unchanged for more than fourteen centuries. And I must say the beauty of the Arabic--when read or heard in recitation--is unrivalled. You can really feel the text come alive with emotion, like in chapter 12 when the Prophet Jacob (pbuh) laments the loss of his son Joseph. You can really feel his sorrow if you understand the Arabic text, and it is hard to not shed a tear of sympathy for him.

All that gets lost in the translation.

But the reality is this: The overwhelming majority of the Muslim world are not native Arabic speakers. Hence, the Qur'an has been translated into a number of languages. Lately--especially after September 11, 2001--the English translations have garnered an increased amount of attention and scrutiny, especially by those who claim (falsely) that the Qur'an enshrines violence and hatred against all non-Muslim.

One thing must be understood about any translation of the Qur'an: It is really an interpretation of the meaning of the words. The Arabic language is a very rich and complex language. Many words have several different meanings that can also be applied within the same verse. That is why it is extremely important for anyone who decides to translate the Qur’an to have an expert understanding of the Arabic spoken at the time of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)--not the Arabic of today’s Arabs.

  5. the author of the quran is allah, im sure u knew that!

dont pick out the faults dude just enjoy the quran for what it is

edit: what knowledge? ur not even a proper muslim! wtf

  6. 12:2 We have revealed it an Arabic Quran, that you may understand

regarding tafseer,it is to putforth their own belief/agenda,such as sunnism.shiaism, and other sects.

fluency in arabic is not the criteria to understand if that was the case then majority of arabs wouldnt be worst in hypocrisy and disbelief 9:97

Guidnace comes from Allah Alone, and no Prophet/Messanger.or scholar/alim could give guidance ,,thats The Sole Prerogative of Allah Allmighty

.[2:5] These are guided by their Lord; these are the winners.

[2:38] We said, "Go down therefrom, all of you. When guidance comes to you from Me, those who follow My guidance will have no fear, nor will they grieve.

[2:39] "As for those who disbelieve and reject our revelations, they will be dwellers of h**l, wherein they abide forever."

Say, "...........GOD's guidance is the true guidance............"

[2:186] When My servants ask you about Me, I am always near. I answer their prayers when they pray to Me. The people shall respond to Me and believe in Me, in order to be guided.

[19:76] GOD augments the guidance of those who choose to be guided. For the good deeds are eternally rewarded by your Lord, and bring far better returns.

[2:272] You are not responsible for guiding anyone. GOD is the only one who guides whoever chooses (to be guided). Any charity you give is for your own good. Any charity you give shall be for the sake of GOD. Any charity you give will be repaid to you, without the least injustice.

    plz read these verses too  3:73; 4:88,4:175; 6:71,6:88,6:90; 7:43; 9:33; 16:121; 18:13; 19:76;

    20:50; 21:51; 28:56,28:85; 31:5; 35:8; 39:22-39:23; 47:17; 48:28; 61:9

seek Guidance from Allah alone Through Glorious Quran Alone this is MUST..

[17:46] We place shields around their minds, to prevent them from understanding it, and deafness in their ears. And when you preach your Lord, using the QURAN ALONE, they run away in aversion.

Quran Translated by a shia, the tafseer would be different similarly, sunni translated tafseer would be different..

Glorious Quran is easy to understand,if you are Sincere

interpretation (Tasfeer) is not an easy task. when you deal with the truth, you can never look at it in absolute way. Ibn Abbas raa is the most famous  interpreter  of Holy Qur'aan. he stated=

    interpretation (Tasfeer) is four levels:

1- the simple, known to all,

2- the linguist, known to those of good in Arabic literature,

3- scientific, known to those of knowledge, and,

4- out of our understanding  part=  belong to Allah swt / God Almighty.

    knowledge is pyramid-like :

    012.076

So he began (the search) with their baggage, before (he came to) the baggage of his brother: at length he brought it out of his brother's baggage. Thus did We plan for Joseph. He could not take his brother by the law of the king except that Allah willed it (so). We raise to degrees (of wisdom) whom We please: but over all endued with knowledge is One, the All-Knowing.

  9. do u call this a Q?!!

  10. Tafseer includes a methodology in understanding the Qur'aan, it includes asbaab an-Nuzool for example.

The Qur'aan is to be understood in the way the Prophet salallaahu aalihi wa salam understood it.
