Question regarding theory test?

Ok, i am currently revising the topics for theory test, and i suddenly came across this question:

you are waiting to emerge left from a minor road. A large vehicle is approaching from the right. You have time, but you should wait. why?

--------------------------------------...

the answer to this was:

The large vehicle can easily hide an overtaking vehicle.

call me stupid, but i forgot what it means when it says 'emerging to or emerging from', does that mean coming from, or going to?

i would really appreciate if you could help!

  1. the theory test can oflten ask you questions which confuse you, but really if you can interpret a question properly and actually understand what they are asking you then the theory test can seem a whole lot easier.

the easier way to word this question would be to say "you are waiting to turn left out of a minor road"

so emerging to means joining another, ie in this case joining a main road. and emerging from means leaving the minor road for the bigger main road.

hope this kinda helps. i recently did my theory test, recognise the question.

  2. You are waiting to pull out onto the big road but a big shiny red bus is coming towards you, probably with an idiot motorcyclist trying to overtake it at 120mph.

  3. obscure or inferior position or condition........

  4. The lovely people who make the driver theory test love to try and confuse you!

The question basically means that you are coming from a smaller or minor road, wishing to turn left onto a major or bigger road.

Looking right, you see there is a lorry or large vehicle coming towards you. Someone may be overtaking or thinking about over taking this vehicle as the road may seem clear to them.

If you pull out, this person overtaking the large vehicle would not see you, or even be aware that you were there, as the person they are overtaking are blocking your view.

Emerging from means coming from. You are emerging from the smaller road, emerging means coming out from.

Emerging to really wouldnt be used. You might merge onto a road, as in move onto that road, merging with a road with other traffic, but by coming out from the smaller road, you are emerging from.

Good luck with your test :o)

    Drive safe.
