Ok my friend and i are seeking a 2 bedroom place. We talked to the consultent and apparntley my friend is still under a lease from the last place she lived at. She lived with her g/f for the past year but she left her and came down here to metro detroit. Anyway, they wont let her apply unless she can prove to them that shes getting out of that lease. However the only way to do that is she has to talk to the formor landlord, cant get a hold of her landlord though. What can she do? They call it high risk when she a lease from somewhere else, thats stupid. What can she do?

  1. It's not stupid.  Your friend as demonstrated that she is "high risk" by walking away from her responsiblities..ie...lease agreement.  She needs a release from her former landlord...but understand, that by law, the landlord does not need to give her this.

  2. She can call her former landlord. Or write a letter to that landlord's address. Send it by certified mail, with return receipt.

Here's my question: if the landlord is SO hard to reach, how did the consultant (salesman) find out she had rented there?

Your story sounds fishy. Flesh out the details!
