For instance, whats on your shopping list that you always must have in your house?

  5. Go through your own cabinets at home or ask your mom to help her make the next shopping list so you can check it out. At MY house we always have a TON of food because we don't live remotely close to any grocery store. So my list would be entirely too long to post...

Ask your mom, she can help and go shopping with her, you can learn a lot!

    Good luck

  6. Ask your mom for her essential kitchen list...

she will cook more like you do....

  8. LOVE

  9. Make a list of what you want to cook for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a week or so. Then think of the ingredients that go in them and write them down.

Besides that, you'll of course need some basics like milk, bread, TV dinners, toilet paper, etc. And don't forget the snack food! I'd get enough stuff to last you a week or so because you won't want to go shopping right after you get back home from your honeymoon.

  10. Rice

    Pasta

Milk (in my case soy milk because I'm allergic)

    Cheese (Parmesan, cheddar, mozzarella)

    bread

flour, all purpose (white, whole wheat)

    sugar (white and brown)

    corn meal

    baking powder

    baking soda (for cooking)

dried beans (kidney, lima, pinto, white, soy)

    canned beans (kidney, garbanzo)

    baked beans, canned

    fruit, depending on the season

    vegetables, depending on the season

frozen veggies (mixed, peas or corn)

    ice cream (or substitute)

    peanut butter

    jam

    cocoa powder

    white vinegar (for cleaning)

    baking soda (same)

    yeast

    lemon juice

    tomato sauce, canned

    canned tomatoes

    tomato paste

    egg noodles

    eggs

    soy sauce

spices (depends on what you cook)

Just off the top of my head, I'm sure I missed some real essentials.

  11. It depends a lot on whether you two actually cook or not, so I can't address food issues very well but bread, butter, jam and peanut butter, canned soups, crackers, milk, yogurt, tea or hot cocoa, snacks, fruit, pasta and sauce makings.

You need cleaning supplies, laundry supplies, toilet paper, paper towels, toilet brush.

There was a question on YA recently from someone off to college living in an apartment and what did they need - you could look at some of those replies.

  12. It depends on what you can cook, really. I'm not much of a chef so I try to have pasta and sauce, stuff to make sandwiches, fruits and veggies, and dessert!

  13. We always have to have toilet paper, paper towels, milk, dishwashing soap, laundry detergent, trash bags, bottle water, sodas, shower saop, windex, sponges and light bulbs.  Those are the basics, but you'll get down your regular rhythm of shopping.  We grocery shop weekly then do toiletries and household items once a month in a big trip to Target.

  14. Wow, that's a big question. If you've never lived on your own. I suggest you sit down with your parents and go over it.

There are obvious kitchen essentials like pots and pans, a can opener, dishes (not just china but everyday dishes), silverwear, a toaster, a microwave, herbs and spices, olive oil and vinegar, cooking utensils. Some people like to have food processors or blenders, but they're really not essential. A Magic Bullet is nice because you can blend single servings and it's easy to clean up.

You'll also need cleaning supplies, a mop, broom and dustpan (or some type of Swiffer stuff if you use that instead), actual cleaning products like Pledge, Mr. Clean, or whatever you use (I stick to environment-friendly stuff so can't remember the name-brands), sponges, scrubbers, a plunger, a vaccuum cleaner (those can be expensive!)

You'll need furniture, obviously, and then bedding - sheets, pillow cases (get at least one extra). Towels, a shower curtain (ours is super-nice but cost $80 and has to be dry-cleaned once a year or so). Wash clothes, hand towels.

Or were you just talking about groceries??

If you are just talking groceries, I suggest you sit down with your mom, and make out a dinner list for 2 weeks to a month. Have her go with you to do all of the shopping, and then make everything so you can see what gets used most often. This will also give you some practice with cooking. Our lists may not help you very much if you have no idea how to cook the stuff!

  15. Must have:

    Eggs

    Milk

    Sugar

    Flour

    Salt

    Pepper

    Bread

    Pasta

    Rice

The above are normally the most common things you will keep in your house. Almost any recipe will require atleast one of the above. The rest of your grocery list will probably be made up of what you and your man enjoy eating.
