I am only 13 and i want to be a nurse i think. I want to get the whole college experience, though. We are doing college visits with my brother who is looking at campuses and they are just the regular college. I just wanted to know if i would still get the whole college experience? Would i still get to be with boys. Where would you be without your schooling? I just really want the whole college experience. What are the differences if there are any?Oh and i want to help deliver babies only,is that possible? Thank you!

  1. Most state schools will have a nursing program, and a few private schools.  Yes, there will be guys, if not many in your classes.  No, you can't just help deliver babies.  There's a lot more to nursing than that.  And I'm betting you've never been present at a childbirth besides your own, if you think that's going to be a lot of fun.

  2. yes  yes yes and yes     the $$ id great go to community college program..its the same as 4 yr degree..or if you want o party and be with boys..go to local university..the work is ahard though in schoiool..so the partying will be limited..or u will flunk out

  3. I'm a nursing major and it is definitely possible to only deliver babies. :)  They call it a labor and delivery nurse. Go to a school known for their nursing program in your area.  You can research it on google or ask around.  Unless you go to an all girl college there will be boys around.  You can be sure of that. :)

  4. nurses doenst really handle deliveries, they just assist the midwife. i am a 2nd yr college taking up midwifery and then ill proceed to nursing next year and ill be 3rd year immediately, i mean u dont need to go back 1st yr nursing...and i think its quite better because ive heard nurse-midwives have greater salaries than nurses do :)

of course you could still get the whole college experience, and yeah, you'll still be with boys because as u can see, there are male nurses outhere. ^^

  5. You'll get the whole college experience, don't worry about that.  And there are lots of male nurses, too.  You'll also meet a lot of different people who aren't in a nursing program when you take your college required classes such as English, Anatomy, etc.

And yes, you can work in labor and delivery as a delivery nurse.  Most new graduates work in a med-surge unit (which is a general type unit) for awhile and then get moved on to a more specific unit (such as labor and delivery).  Nursing is a very exciting and rewarding career.

    Best of luck to you!
