  1. ..

What would you type into the website?  Road names and crossings?  Doing that would net nothing more accurate than typing addresses into Mapquest or Yahoo! maps.

But if you really want to know . . .

One of my running partners has taken to bringing a hand-held GPS unit on the run.  This unit has been extremely helpful for precise measurements of our distances run, and moderately helpful in providing our current and average speeds.

Google (excuse me, Yahoo!) search on "running gps" and "gps running," and you'll find all kinds of info available.  Be sure to read the consumer reviews if indeed this is something you're serious about!

They aren't cheap ($70+), but they do they do the trick!

    Regards,

    Phil

  2. Have you tried using a pedometer? It counts the number of steps taken and if you know the average distance of one of your steps you can calculate it that way. My cell phone has this option and is pretty acurate amazingly.

  3. Google maps pedometer!  Works like a charm.  (linked below)

  4. no one has really answered your question like you want it so i will tell you exactly what i do.  I use mapmyrun.com AS WELL AS Google Earth.  Map My run is great in the sense that you literally map (with a line) the exact route you take and streets you cross and the like.  The difference with google earth is that you can get EXACT measurements because you can map the run you took by actually looking at the picture and you definitely know where you ran so it is easy.

  5. you don't need either of the two things those guys are talking about. I'm training for xc and if you go to http://www.usatf.org/routes/map/

and type in your area code then map your route it will tell you how far it is.

you can also search a database of other routes created by other users in your area

no need to spend all of that money unless you want to on a handheld gps
