Question to anyone English ?

What do English people think of the Commonwealth?

I am Irish and resent having once been part of it and speaking English better than my own language so like most people who were once under English rule and still live in a way highly influenced by English culture eg Scotland, Cornwall etc I bear a grudge towards the English and English culture. However I will let bygones be bygones if England ceases it's rule and influence on Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall and the Isle of Man and accepts us a different race (Celtic) with our own unique culture and language.

So, does any English civilian personally feel this is something they would be willing to accept, not speaking in terms of will the government comply here just personal opinion.

Also if anyone would care to debate this topic with me I would be delighted to, my email is beanfianna@gmail.com

  1. I have always thought England needs to get the h**l out of N. Ireland.

I'm a huge supporter in that.

  2. I realise by your name that you are very young, but there is no such thing as a celtic race. The 'celts' did not even call themselves 'celts', that is a modern term. they would have used their own tribal names. Alas, the celts lost much of their power because the chieftains spent so much time fighting each other than often they did not see danger coming from outside.

I am not trying to be horrible, it is my heritage as well, and yes, my grandparents did not have an easy life (southern Ireland was still under English rule when they were young and my grandmother had to move to England to get any work.) However, they did realise that they had to move on,and obviously as they settled in England they came to realise the AVERAGE person in the street was not out to oppress or denigrate them.

Btw, best you know now, too, that most English people also have celtic ancestry. Dna has proved that.

  3. I am English, and if it was up to me I would give scotland and wales their independence tomorrow. I'm not sure about Ireland, i have strong Irish connections (one of my parents is from Belfast) and its not that i think it should stay as it is, its just that I'm unsure as to what the solution is there (seeing as how the majority of northern irish protestants want things to stay as they are, and you cant blame me for being slightly biased). But, most of all I think that Scotland should get its independence. That way, our government would have extra billions to spend on us, and that way, we could get better education, better health care, lower taxes (maybe?), in other words, everything that scotland gets now.

  4. Why do you bear a grudge to the English? If I were you I would count your blessings, looking at some of the tyrannical countries 'refusing to cease their rule' over others. Not than England does so.

I think the only way we can survive is if we all stick together here.

We don't oppress your language or culture either, I would say that we actually find them interesting and are envious seeing as our culture has become more 'mainstream'.

How can you say that all other countries in the UK, apart from England wish to be independent? We have a Scottish prime minister, it's not as if it's always an English person ruling. You could say that we are all being ruled by the Scottish.

Plus, Northern Ireland Protestants wanted to stay loyal to the crown during the early 1900s when civil war almost broke out. The Catholics, mainly in the south wanted to be independent, and are so.

Sure, leave us if you like, but don't you feel proud to be a part of such a place? The UK is a diversity of culture, beliefs, language (yes Gaelic) and has a vast amount of history. Aren't you proud to be a part of it?

And last of all, we are all of the same race. The same invaders landed on each of the countries in the UK and influenced it in similar ways, so I don't see how you can say that the Celts are different to us English.
