  1. Atheists know a lot about different religions. Christians barely don't study biology and evolution. There is evidence for evolution but there is no evidence for any god.

Why don't you believe in the gods, Zeus and MIthras, or Horus and Buddha ?

  2. And how do you sir, no offense  know that the particular god you have chosen to observe is actually the correct among thousands.  You have picked the picked the bible brand of god.

  3. Evolution is a GRADUAL and very slow process.

    I don´t believe ´´just like that´´

I study and confront my findings and compare to UNDERSTAND

  4. The evolution of lesser apes to man is a very slow process as it involves some pretty substantial change. When I say slow, it's not something that can be readily observed. However, it is not disputed that it has happened in the scientific community. A fusion of two ape chromosomes is readily apparent in human chromosome 2.

  5. Please understand the Theory of Evolution before asking a question based on it.

    I

  6. We look to the evidence.  The evidence for evolution is the fossil record.  Don't take any scientist's word for it.  Check it out for yourself.  Go visit your local natural history museum, and check out the progression of evolution.

After seeing the evidence for myself, I believe that evolution is real.  On the question of the existence of any gods, there is no evidence to review.

  7. "It's true because it says it is" doesn't hold water in the scientific community.

  8. I want to know why we still have apes if we came from them.

I don't believe we came from them I am a Christian.

  9. It's not one mad scientist with a maniacal laugh and works in a basement that says evolution is true, its the entire scientific community.

Humans are mammals of the ape family by the way. So we don't have to see an ape turning into humans, we are apes.

  10. I'm only 17, and apes don't evolve in 17 years.

Oh, you're twelve, that's why you come off so dumb.

  11. You're not offending me, you're disappointing me.  No, actually your parents are disappointing me, because you probably had no choice in your indoctrination.  You see, the process that forms the basis of evolution (genetic inheritance) is easily observable.  Many grade school science classes conduct simple experiments concerned with the process.  At least, if you choose to ignore the mountains of scientific data supporting evolution, you can see that the groundwork is in place.  For god, this groundwork is simply not there.

  12. Well there is this magical thing called evidence that shows proof of evolution.

Evolution takes millions of years so of course I have not seen an ape evolve into a human. Then again no decent scientists would ever tell you humans come from apes.

  13. The bible has been disproven.  Case closed after that.

If you'd like to see the proof of evolution, you can take a field trip to the Museum Of Natural History, and view the actual bones of our ancestors, with your own eyes.

    Have fun!

Oh, btw... the stuff on display at the Creationist Museum... uhm... that stuff is made out of paper mache... k, thanks

  14. No scientist states that we came from apes. That is Christian propaganda. Evolution, a fact, teaches that we have a common ancestor.

  15. Okay, I am a scientist and you are mixing together quite a few things.

First is proof of a god.  At twelve, you probably shouldn't need to worry about this one way or another.  However, the big problem that religions are facing is that they make very spectacular claims, like people rising from the dead, healing, or prayers that work, but the only evidence is second hand stories from people.  The bible isn't evidence unless you would also say the koran is evidence or the gitas.  If you accept them as evidence, then the bible is false.  They all contradict one another.  There are of course many other sacred books, but they don't agree with Christianity either.  So if you accept them all as evidence, they all cancel out because they contradict each other and provide no external support.

Okay, human beings and modern apes share a common ancestor, but we also share a common ancestor with trees, bacteria, dinosaurs.  There are literally billions of pieces of evidence and no evidence against.  The theory of evolution is the theory on how the fact of evolution happens.  This is like the how the theory of gravity is the theory of how gravity works and happens.  Both gravity and evolution are facts.  Science is different from other jobs.  It is the only occupation that tries to prove itself false.  The only job of scientists is to find the mistakes.

Biologists have been trying to disprove evolution for 150 years now and there have been some very very tough challenges in that time.  However, after all the tests were done, after all the challenges were silenced, evolution was not only still standing, it was stronger.

The job of science is to question all beliefs, even those of the scientist.  One of the most difficult parts of becoming a scientist is if you disprove something dear to you.  Something you believe with all your heart, only to find out you are wrong.  In my profession, we share our ideas often in public discussions, where fellow scientists take apart, criticize and attack your work.  They are not trying to be mean, they are trying to make your work as good as it can be and to point out errors in your work or how you were thinking.

Of course very few atheists are also scientists, but at least scientists do understand how painful it is to stand up and have people take apart your hard work.

Although no one was around when homo sapiens sapiens diverged from the prior species, we can see the fossils.  We can see the artifacts as well, like stone weapons.  We can date them.

As to how do you know we are not making stuff up?  That is really a good and insightful question.  The answer is that before we publish anything, it gets reviewed by referees who check our work to make sure we are not making things up, make sure our math is valid, make sure there were not things a person with more experience wouldn't notice or do.  It does happen on very rare occasions that a scientist makes things up and almost gets away with it, but then they lose their jobs and their careers.  No one will hire them.  There is no greater offense in science than to lie.

Scientists jobs depend upon truth and upon others checking that they are telling the truth.  It depends upon using the real physical data.  It depends upon other people trying to find your mistakes and proving you are wrong.  For example, Einstein proved Newton wrong, but it took almost 200 years for someone to be able to figure out why it wasn't working right.  People have since proved some ideas of Einstein wrong.  Newton was very close to right, Einstein was also close to right.  Scientists know they are very close to the truth, but still don't know for sure what does and does not work.

The theory of evolution is very very very close to the truth.  Little things get discovered all the time and the theory is amended a little here or there to allow for it, but it is probably 99.9% right and wrong on minor things.  It is possible to prove that evolution is wrong and the bible is correct.

If the bible is literally correct then everything was made in one week and all animals and plants that ever lived were made at the same time, or within a day.  That would mean that if you look in the layers of the Earth, rabbits and dinosaurs should be in the same layer, side by side.  Indeed, if rabbit bones were found inside a velociraptor stomach, that would be disproof of evolution, but nothing like that has every happened.  The opposite has been found.  As you dig deeper, you can find animals that look a lot like the ones just above them and so on, until the animals get very different.  At the top you can find rabbits, just down a little you can find rabbit ancestors, below that you can find the rabbits' ancestors' ancestor and so forth.

Atheists simply have accepted the judgment of most of science.  That said, 7% of the members of the National Academy of Science believe in some form of a god.  So some of the most eminent thinkers in America believe a god is possible, but most do not believe any god is possible.  This is based only on the physical evidence and what we know about how the universe actually works.  There are a lot of implications that can be tested if a god existed, yet even though people have diligently tried to find evidence, none that you would expect ever shows up.

  16. >>>ok i'm Christian and i just wanted to know something, i don't mean to offense any one.

    No of course you don't.

    >>>ok you say that there is no prove of god and that bible isn't a proof.

    Correct,

    >>>ok now how come you are sure that men come from apes.

    Men didn't come from apes.

    >>>just because a scientist says something like that it doesn't mean it is true

What it generally means is that the scientist has a lot of evidence to support what he is asserting.

    >>>and also have you seeing an ape becoming human?

Don't need to, besides, apes don't become human.

You are arguing from ignorance and incredulity

    >>>I  don't want to offense you.

    Your protestations suggest otherwise.

    >>>i just want you to understand how other people feel when you question they beliefs?

You won't find that out by questioning atheists.

  17. Because it isnt just one scientists...its d**n near all of them...oh yea and there is this thing called the Scientific Method.

It has worked for every other aspect of human existence why would it suddenly fail when it comes to Biology?

The Bible is only supported by The Bible.  There are tons and tons of evidence to support evolution and not just from the field of Biology, the theory encompasses several fields of science all providing evidence in some way to the validity of evolution.

  18. It's comparing a book without a known author or any outside proof that it's correct to a scientific theory (which means that we have no other ideas of equal weighting that contradict it) with thousands, if not millions, of examples of outside proof. I don't care if people question my beliefs, so long as they are logical in their argument.

  19. I know that the Bible is untrue because the Bible says that the sky has a lid and that outer space is ful of water (Genesis 1: 6-10).

You believe that the sky has a lid.

How am I supposed to explain evolution to someone who believes that the sky has a lid?

  20. its not "just because a scientists says something".  theres evidence.  opposable thumbs for instance are only found among primates.  then there is also the fact that our chromosome number two is a fusion of two chromosomes that, in other great apes, are separate.  there is also the genetic similarities between humans and chimps.  then there are also skeletal and muscular similarities.

the evidence is out there.  it isnt just "because some scientists say so".  if scientists had that much sway in just their opinions the world would be a much different place.  in the scientific world you must have evidence to back up your claims.

  21. No one believes we came from apes and there is a plural for atheist, and we know the scientists are not lying because many say the same thing, not just a few, what have they possible have to gain from all lying? the cannot all be being bribed to lie can they? they would probably have more to gain by lying and saying god made it...

  22. First of all, evolution does not ever say that humans came from apes.  Evolution says that apes and humans share a common ancestor, the same one shared by every other living organism on this earth.

And I believe in evolution rather than god because it relies on a mechanism that I can clearly prove and demonstrate.

I can see how organisms can gain traits through mutation; I can see how certain traits make those organisms more likely to survive than others; I can see how that would ultimately result in the diversity of things around me.

I will sooner choose to believe an explanation that involves phenomena and forces that I have observed than I will believe one that involves deux ex machina.

  23. I thought we were suppose to DRINK to questions like this, what happened to doing that?

    DRINK!

  24. its because we've seen fossil records of  apes becoming humans not any apes around today but a type a long time ago whose brain got bigger as their body got more useless and ended up like ours which is one of the most useless bodies of any animal on earth we aren't fast or strong we don't have claws or anything else to protect us so we got smart and made guns and cars

  25. No one believes men come from apes.  Do some more research.

  26. we are human....we can explain...ask everyone

    Methodist

  27. 1. Atheist should be plural not singular

    2. There are too many "ok"'s in your question, not even one is necessary.

    3. Every first letter of a sentence should be capitalized.

    4. You used "offense" twice when it should have read "offend".

    5. "Their" beliefs, not "they" beliefs. [to correct your last sentence]

I know I sound b*tchy but this massacre of the English language really peeved me.

  28. I'm christian and i beleive that the bible is God's word and God's word is law and the bible is proof!!!

I'm ready for all the thumbs down you can give, but i stand by Jesus and I trust with all my heart.

  29. I was 12 once. I believed this: The Creation was written by people who didn't know science back then, 4,000 years ago when it was written.

Nowadays, we know that science has opened our eyes to this: we are no closer to the ultimate truth, but we might be a little closer to those everyday truths, like where do humans come from? They're animals, like every other creature on the planet.

  30. Zombie Captain: Who disproved it and when did this happen? When was evolution proved without a doubt and who proved it??

It's Summer:  I believe it's all a question of Faith.  When I get on an airplane, I take a GIANT leap of Faith that the plane won't fall out of the sky. Atheists don't grasp the concept of faith in a higher being. They have faith that they came from a tadpole or an ape.

  31. I know evolution is truth because 1). new species are still evolving & being found, 2). We can trace the fossil record to show exactly where almost all animals come from, 3). you can demonstrate it.

Now I'm not saying you can demonstrate or observe macro-evolution, which is a species evolving from another species, but you can observe micro-evolution, which are things like viruses becoming immune to medicines, animals defending against humans better, etc.

Also, to say that an animal one day turns into another species is a complete misinterpretation of evolution. Evolution says a species evolves FROM another, not TO another. Meaning that a specimen of a species is born with a minor mutation that may over time become widely successful and become a new species.

It's clear we atleast came from some sort of primate, because we share 99% of our genetic code with them. We can also see how closely related we our to other species, such as pigs, who have nearly identical hearts to what we have.
