Questionable caution flag near end of Brickyard?

anyone else notice how they dropped the yellow flag as soon as Jimmie Johnson got by Jeff Burton for 3rd and they threw the caution before Carl Edwards could get by Burton. Previously they had thrown the caution at random times if i'm not mistaken. It just so happened that they threw it when JJ got one spot ahead of Carl Edwards, perhaps his best competition, as noted by the ESPN commentators. I hate HMS so i'm probably just making excuses for one of their drivers to win, but it is interesting to note how they dropped the yellow right after he passed Burton giving him a better chance to get out first off of pit road.

  1. LOL YES, Rick paid the flagman off!  Jimmie winning had NOTHING to do with him having the best car all weekend, including practices, qualifying and the "race" itself.

    3 STR8 N 08!!!

  2. Not really. They threw the yellow as the leader went by. I think it was coincidence. I can't believe they'd do that with the embarrassing tire situation going on.

  3. Nah that was all the game, Jimmy had Pocono tires on the car anyways and no worries about having a bad tire...  Didn't you see him driving on two wheels around the track while the all the other cars tires were dropping like flies?

He knew he had good tires!  Thanks NASCAR

  4. NASCAR was throwing competition cautions every 10 laps because of tires.Several radio programs have addressed this but NASCAR has yet to release an official explinatipn.

But it did seem that they were thrown at the times racing was getting good.

  5. yes i believe you are makin excuses...i think jimmy would've beat out edwards outta the pits in any case.  im glad carl didn't win...i hate his stupid backflips...how dumb would he feel if he landed on his head....in fact i'd rather see a BOW!!

  6. I would say you are just making excuses, because twice earlier in the race, they threw the caution right after Carl Edwards had passed Jimmie Johnson.  But then again on all three cautions, the two I mentioned, and the one you did, they came after 10 laps of racing, so there wasn't really any conspiracy, it just happened that is when the final car crossed the start/finish line and the threw the competition caution.  Happened to Jimmie at least twice with Edwards just getting around him so, you can't see it one way and not the other.

  7. Nascar was helping their poster boy win.

  8. NASCAR does not arbitrarily display the yellow to initiate a competiton caution.  There is actually a  precise way that they are thrown.  It occurs after the entire field has crossed the start/finish line to begin the lap that the caution was to be thrown.  That is done so that the leader is the first car to cross the line under the yellow and none of the drivers get caught behind the pace car when the caution comes out.  It just so happened that the last car crossed the start/finish line after the leaders started that lap was at the same time Johnson passed Burton.

  9. Conspiracy theories in NASCAR!?! No WAY!!

    BTW, I like your name plymouthbarracuda1969, I have a 68 Barracuda 340 Formulas S fastback.  :p

  10. It's over, Jimmie won get over it! People will always make excuses why someone they obviously don't like wins!!! Everyone complained ALL of last year that he was winning, he won his 2nd race of the season and they're back at it again. Pathetic! GO 48!!

  11. put yourself in nascar's shoes and you'd probably do the same d**n thing.

  12. How the h**l was Nascar going to know exactly where the drivers would be at that particular moment in the race?  Everybody knew when the flags were coming...and besides, it wouldn't have mattered anyway.  Johnson showed all day long that he could pass at will (except for Hamlin on that particular run).
