Question:

Questionable purchase at Wal-Mart?

I don't know if this is the right forum to ask this question. If it isn't, forgive me.

I bought a lawnmower at Wal-Mart. After I paid, an employee went to look for the owners' manual. He couldn't find one, and I overheard the cashier tell him he probably wouldn't because it was last year's model. I asked where it had been kept all this time. He said it had been kept in a trailer. I told him I was concerned about the lack of a manual, since no manual = no warranty card. He said if I kept my receipt, the store had a 6-month warranty.

I took it, but I'm wondering now if I should return it. If it's unsold stock from last year and last year's model, shouldn't I get a discount? I can call the manufacturer for a manual, but what about a warranty?

It's a shady practice anyway. I didn't realize that they put unsold stock from last year front and center and "hid" the new stuff in a less conspicuous place, to try and get rid of the old stuff first.

  1. I would suggest speaking to the store manager. Tell him how you feel about wanting a discount. He might be willing to give you store credit or some type of refund. I must tell you it is common practice for retailers to hold onto last year's items and remerchandise them at the appropriate time, especially seasonal products. Granted not all of them keep their products in trailers and lose the owners manual. As far as the warranty I would double check that WalMart has 6 month warranty, and check with the manufacturer there should be a warranty with them also. Warranties should be good even if the product is a year old. I believe the warranty would go into effect once the product is purchased.

Like I said try the store manager and if that doesn't work, go to the district manager. Most retailers want to make the customer happy so they will continue to shop with them!  Hope I helped, good luck!!

  2. girl, you done bough a mower from walmart. go to the home depot or lowes and gett you a good mower aint nothing but junk up at walmart. shoot you need get you a 60" zero turn radius mower. You know like all them mexicans be on when they be cutting the grass.

  3. Find out the make and model number off the deck or if it has an information plate attached. Go to the mower manufacturer homepage online. Look for a link to register it. You'll need the information.

Walmart only sells this type of merchandise. I like to call it "aftermarket". Yes, it was probably in storage at the store, in a container out back, as this is common practice with many retailers to avoid shipping costs( I worked for a retail  chain at one time).

The store may warranty it for 6 months but even though you may have a "new-old" model.....thats 6 months from date of purchase. The manufacturer may have a year or more warranty which is also from date of purchase. Once again check the homepage( do a Search or just type in the address bar at top of browser....i.e. Toro.com.....this should direct you right to that page)

If you had recently bought it ;yes try to go back and get a discount. Before you do;  inspect it....check everything(wheels, cords, handles) and take pics with a camera phone or digital camera if damaged enough.....it may only be 10% though.....Walmart has an open/damaged box policy......talk to the manager of the store.

  4. You need to bring this up with the manager.  The customer is always right, they do not want to lose you as a customer.  This will just take a couple of more calls.

  5. I would just take it back

  6. your warranty card is more about marketung info for the mfg than the warranty , you still have a warranty ven if you never send it in.

If you call the MFG I am sure you can get the manuel from them no problem

In the Wal mart return area ( in my town) there is a sign that specificly says no returns on lawnmowers, the lawn mower MFG handels all repairs and problems. Unless the policy is dofferent in your town I think he lied to yo uabout the 6 month store warranty.

Either way if you like the mower call the mfg get the book and enjoy it. If you are feling let down don't take no for an answer from the service desk ask to speak to a Mgr.

I assume the mower is stil unused, If yo have used it you may not be able to return it.

  7. Get discount on ebay - http://www.kickitback.com/default.aspx?r...
