1. Is it possible to get contacts without a prescription?

2. Is it possible to get contacts without your parents knowing, because they are so strict its not even funny?

3. Can you give me any tips on persuading my parents if #2 is a no?

I'm 14 and I'm entering high school in August. I want contacts because I might play volleyball & lacrosse, glasses make my eyes look really small, I want to start fresh since only 50 people from my middle school are districted to my high school.

  1. DO NOT get contacts without a prescription, for the reasons listed above!

I managed to get contacts when I turned 13 by showing my parents I could be responsible and mature. I know you probably roll your eyes when your parents give you the maturity speech, but it's true--you don't get anything without showing you can take care of it.

I did all of my chores with the least amount of complaining possible, kept my grades up, and did my best not to talk back or look bored and disinterested in what my parents said to me. I had asked for contacts before, and finally when I turned 12 I bargained that, if I showed that I could be mature and care for them, they would reconsider the matter. This won't get you contacts right away, but it always feels better to get something you earned.

Plus, by acting like a responsible teenager and keeping it up, you get other pluses like learning to drive sooner and being allowed to hang out late with your friends. Bring this up to your parents and see if they're willing to reconsider their stance if you show some maturity.

  2. Yes you need a prescription, your eyes are important. Ill fitting contacts can cause ulcers on the surface of the eye which leads to infection /scratches on the cornea and scare tissue.

You parents know more than you do, established fact, so live with it.

Depending upon you visual problem, the specialist who prescribes contacts may suggest you wait until you are older and your eye prescription stabilizes.

Well a fresh start is not only the outer surface changing, but also, the inner self.

If the inner does not change, you just carry the same baggage with you.

    Good Luck.
