Questions About Rapid Palate Expander (RPE)

Hey.

I have a RPE (Rapid Palate Expander) and I had SARPE (Surgically Assisted Rapid Palate Expansion) 5 days ago.

I just started turning my key a few days ago and I have a few questions about the RPE.

1. Is it possible for the key to get stuck? What should I do if it happens?

2.Can you give me any tips on turning? My mom has a lot of difficulty when she has to turn it.

3. When you get it taken off, how long does it take? Also, is it a painful procedure?

Thanks~!

  1. If it seems like the key is stuck.....don't panic,  simply gently wiggle it and it should come loose....I've never heard of anyone getting it really stuck,  they are made to be easy to do.

Something that might make it easier for mom,   lay down on the couch with your head tipped way back,  and she can see the appliance better either from the front of behind you.

Getting the appliance removed can be a little sore,  but definitely not anywhere near like what you have already been through !   It should only take a few minutes.

  2. 1. I Never had my key get stuck.

    2. Try turning the key yourself, I always did mine myself, it was alot easier.

    3. It comes off in minutes, not painful at all.

The only thing horrible about them is food will always get stuck and you will feel like a freak trying to blow the food out ;)
