Question:

Questions About Wedding Reception Favors?

My wedding will be in June with a calla lily theme. I have 3 favors.

1. Calla lily shaped candle holders

2. Silver bell with calla lily handle

3. Crystal coasters with a calla lily design (in sets of 2)

First question, do I have to pick one or is it ok to use all three? Like, if different people walk away with different favors, so they can sort of decide what they like. They all go with our theme and work well together. So, do you think its of to use them all?

Second question, we are expecting 150 people and our on a limited budget. Do you think these favors will be enough? Or do we need to pair them with something else? I've been to weddings where there were small bags with candy as favors and I've been to others where there were practically gift baskets for everyone so I'm not sure.

  1. If you are on a tight budget, I would not spend money on the favors. I have never taken favors home from a wedding because I have no use for them. My fiance and I are going to choose something practical that will be used or we will not have them at all. I can't imagine spending all of that money and see it jsut wasted!

  2. Ok.  I never give a durn about the favors.  Do whatever makes you happy.

Honestly tho?  I like the idea of the calla lilly bulb thing.  Could be a much cheaper route and a nice touch.

Don't go overboard on the expense.  Your guests came to see you get married, not take home a gift.  I have seen personalized chocolate bars, wallet size pics of the bride and groom, personalized M&M's, and a plastic spoon with Hershey kisses inside wrapped in tulle with a tag that said "A spoonful of kisses from the Mr and the Mrs. with the wedding date on the back.

  3. I think that different favors are a great idea, as long as they fit in the budget. I am getting married next year and just went to a chocolate shop down the street from my house the lady there was so generous! We are getting personalised silver boxes, stamped with our monogram with candy in them and a black ribbon for only a dollar a piece. They look so elegant. I never expected to find such a good deal, I was just going to order something online. Just make sure you shop around.

  4. It's only recently that I've seen people giving favors that matched their theme. My cousin's wedding was fall-themed, so the favors were tiny apple-shaped candles. The wedding I was just in had personalized playing cards as favors, since the groom proposed to the bride using a trail of cards.

You can use all three if you like, but I think some people will get confused and take all three. I know as a wedding guest I'm never concerned about the favors. What if, instead of three different gifts, you gave potted calla lily bulbs? It's a nice symbol to give a growing gift.

  5. Personally, I would just pick one.  My preference would be the  crystal coasters with a calla lily design for its practicality.  Secondly if you are on a limited budget, don't get too engrossed over reception favours, most of the guest you invited would be there to sharing your joy and happiness and give their blessings, they would not be too bothered with these.  It would not be worthwhile to be subsequently burdened with these as a result of tight budget.

  6. If you're on a budget, I'd skip the favor.  I was and what I did was I donated a small amount to a charity (not super cheap, but less than what a favor would've cost - even the cheap ones) and they sent cards with little sayings that we chose them in lieu of favors (we are animal lovers, so we donated to the SPCA.  Seriously, most people don't use the wedding favors and many even leave them, so why waste your money there.  Make yourself and your guests feel good the money is going to a worthy cause (that's tax deductible to you by the way) and skip the favors.  Put the remaining amount to use in another part of your wedding.  Our guests commented how sweet it was and NO ONE complained that they didn't get something to take home.

    Congratulations!!!!

  7. I personally am not doing gift favors, we are on a limited budget and decided to cut them out. We didn't want to do something cheap because favors often get left anyway.

I think I would pick just one type of favor.

  8. I think the idea of "gift bags" are TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL.  The favors you have thought of all seem very nice. If I were you I would go with the most economical.  Remember people are not going to your wedding to see what kind of favor they will be getting.  And you never hear any one talking about the favors the day after the wedding.  Spend as little as possible and use that money for  your honeymoon.  You'll be happy you did.  Have fun planning and best of everything to you and your honey!!  : )

  9. 1. Those are plenty of favors.

    2. Not to be mean, but I think you are overdoing it with the calla lily theme. Honestly, I wouldn't take any of those favors home since they don't really fit my decor.

  10. I think having 3 different types of favors is a great idea.

They would be fine by themselves but if you feel there needs to be more but dont want to spend too much, you could buy small chocolates & put 3 in each favor :o) If you buy the chocys in bulk you will save heaps & will have plenty to go around.
