  1. They can help acne in some instances, and are available over the counter in most areas. HOWEVER, you need to be very careful with Zinc as it is highly toxic! There is a book called the Physician's Desk Reference (PDR) which has a companion edition for OTC drugs, herbal medicines and vitamins and minerals. Look it up at your local library, as your pharmacist would use this same book to answer your questions about Zinc.

These days, it is becoming standard to treat severe acne with an antibiotic, tetracycline. Many cases of acne are caused by a lingering, low grade infection caused by bacteria.

Other options are products like Oxy-Clean, which contains salacylic acid. There is also Retin-A and that 4 part treatment Perfect Skin, or something like that, that Jessica Simpson is always advertising on TV.

So, if your acne is becoming problematic, see a dermatologist, as they have many highly effective treatment options to offer you. In the case of Zinc, more is definitely not better!

    Good luck!

  2. take a look and healing.about.com and then search acne, this site has lots of information zinc and vitamin treatments for acne.

  3. zinc pills worked best for me for my skin, out of every single thing that I have tried, and believe me when I say I have tried most everything out there on the market. They are not very expensive, they are sold at groceries and pharmacies along with other vitamins. They do not have to be prescribed, and there is no age limit. However, if you are under 18, be cautious about how many you take, if you buy the 50mg dosages, take one pill every other day and monitor your health. If you feel nauseous or sick it may mean you have too much zinc in your system. they help any type of skin.
