Questions About my Dwarf Rabbits diet?

Hello, My dwarf rabbit is about 2-3 years old, I give him a scoop of Timothy hay pellets each day, and he is allowed unlimited hay, Unlimited water, and a treat of a bit of fruit each week. I cuddle with him daily and let him out daily and clean his box (he is box trained) 3 times a week. The only problem is that I can't provide a handful of 3 assorted greens per day. I read that that is what I was supposed to provide. I can only provide him 3 assorted greens around 2-3 times a week, But not handfuls, big piles, I give him big piles because he does not get it on a regular basis so I feel like he has to get that type of nutrition....

Here is the question short and sweet, My rabbit gets 2 or 3 handfuls of greens 3 times a week, Does this replace giving him greens every day but In shorter amounts?

  1. His regular diet is good also so that is a great all around diet for him, you are taking great care of him!

  2. It sounds like you are doing what you can do,  this diet shouldn't be a problem.  Some experts don't recommend vegetables anyway (though I tend to agree with the pro-veggie people). A good pellet already contains the vital nutrients he needs.

  3. Hi!

As long as your rabbit is getting unlimited hay, that is the main thing and you are looking after him really well by the sound of it.

If you can't provide assorted greens, why not grass? That is the ultimate natural, cheap food. As long as it's clean and fresh, they love it.

Be careful with big piles of brassica type veg such as cabbage, as this can make them get a bit of a runny tummy. Always introduce new forms of veg gradually to check that it agrees with them.

    Hope that helps!
