Tomorrow I am going to my first interview for an elementary teaching position. I'm really worried because I've been looking for an elementary teaching job for two years now and this is the first time I've actually gotten called in for an interview. What are some of the tough questions I might be asked? What kind of responses will they be looking for?

  1. What can you add to this school and staff if you were hired?

    What are your weaknesses?

How would you deal with .............

  2. I haven't applied for a job as a teacher yet, although i may have an interview for a teaching assistant job soon. I have done a lot of work with kids, though, and find that I get asked questions a lot about how to handle conflicts, like between kids, between co-workers, or between parents and staff.

You might also be asked something about your philosophy on teaching kids or why the job appeals to you. Good luck at your interview!!!

  3. What are your communication plans for parents?

What will your classroom look like?

What is your approach towards discipline/behavior modification?

Here's a case study:  how would you respond?

How will you reach all learners?

  4. I was always asked what my biggest weakness was.  If you are asked this one make it positive...for example, you tend to over plan for a lesson.

  5. Philosphy of teaching is always a big one (basically how do you view learning and how it should be administered). Other questions will reflect what types of testing you have done, disciplining, and organizations you are apart of
